Foxit 2.3 PDF Reader Includes Tabs

Last year we took a look at a sweet PDF reader called PDF-XChange Viewer. One of my favorite things that it includes is a tabbed system for managing multiple PDF's. It seems like everything is getting tabs these days, and there's no doubt that they fit very well into a PDF reader. It sure beats having ten different windows open and trying to switch between them all, doesn't it?

Stardock has released a new application called MyColors that will really appeal to college students/alumni and sports fanatics. The program itself is a free download, and it's goal is to completely skin your Windows XP or Vista operating system. It changes the theme, background, icons, gadgets, media player, and more.

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Available

A huge milestone for Ubuntu was just released! Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is only the second release of the popular Linux operating system to offer Long Term Support (LTS). The last version was 6.06 which is coming up on two years old, but they are still supporting it until June 2009 for the desktop and June 2011 for the server.

Download XP SP3

So Windows XP SP3 was finally completed on Monday which goes along with the release schedule that we had previously provided. TechNet and MSDN subscribers were furious that they would not be given the download until after it was released to the public, and looked at it as a slap in the face from Microsoft.

New Apple Software Updater Appeases Critics, Kind of

It's been a month since Apple started distributing their Safari browser to Windows users with rather questionable practices. Anyone that had either QuickTime or iTunes installed would receive a prompt stating that there was a Safari "update" available, regardless of whether it had ever been installed on the machine. That didn't go over too well with the online community.

Vista Search Index Gadget: Pause & Start Indexing

Finally! Well over a year ago I wrote about how a Microsoft blog was outlining how to make a Vista "PowerToy" gadget. The gadget that they were using for their demonstration was a Vista Search Index controller where you could pause or start indexing on-demand. For one reason or another the gadget was never actually released... until now!

New gOS Space 2.9 even more Mac-like?

Last year Wal-Mart started selling a Linux-powered computer for under $200 called the gPC. After some confusion amongst consumers they decided to boot the budget computers from the store shelves, and offer it solely online. Ever since it looks as though the operating system that powers the low-cost computer, called gOS, has started to go through an identity crisis with Mac OS X.

Online Regular Expression Builder

Regular expressions are one of those things that are incredibly powerful... if you know how to use them. It has taken quite a bit of time for me to learn the ins and outs of how they work, but once you get the hang of them there is almost always some variation that can be used in the different programming languages.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Features

Microsoft just released Windows Mobile 6.1 yesterday, and they've added some features that are actually pretty slick. The new home screen is really the focal point of the release. With it you have several "panels" that get expanded as you scroll up and down over them. A video demonstration of this (and other features) is at the end of the article.

WordPress 2.5 is Pretty Nice

It has taken a little while to get to this point, but WordPress 2.5 was released earlier this weekend. The biggest thing about the new version is the completely revamped administration area (). It not only has a new color scheme, but has also been reworked to make you even more productive.

Fast Email Filtering in Thunderbird

One of the great things about the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client is that it has an extension system much like it's browser counterpart Firefox. Because of this Thunderbird users can really benefit from features created by developers around the world, and a great example of this is with the Seek extension.

OpenOffice.org Redesigns Website, Launches Version 2.4

As we pointed out yesterday in our Daily Downloads the new version of OpenOffice.org 2.4 has been released, and here's an overview of the new features. In my opinion that is not the most exciting news though. To go along with the new release they've also revamped their website, and I have to say that they did an incredible job with it.

Mozilla Comments on Apple’s "Update" Practices

Last week we wrote about how Apple was trying to push the Safari "update" on any computer with the Apple Software Update installed, regardless of whether Safari had ever been installed before on the machine.

Apple Pushes Safari "Update" on Windows

Apple is obviously trying to attract some new users to the Safari 3.1 web browser that was just released on Tuesday, but I would say that they are using questionable methods to do so. I'm not sure how well you remember the World Wide Developers Conference last year when Steve Jobs announced how they planed to distribute Safari for Windows.

There are all kinds of performance improvements included in this Service Pack that will make the operating system more appealing to users who have been holding out on an upgrade.

Download Safari 3.1 with Speed Improvements

I don't think anyone was really expecting to see a new release of Apple's Safari browser today, but it has dropped down the tubes for all to enjoy. Apple is once again boasting the performance of the browser when stacked up against the other mainstream alternatives, and according to them Safari comes out well on top in terms of HTML performance and JavaScript performance.

A Better Speed Dial for Firefox

One of the things that I absolutely love about Opera is the Speed Dial that was introduced back in Opera 9.2 almost exactly one year ago. It basically adds thumbnail images of your 9 favorite sites to the page that is displayed when you open a new tab.

Start Applications with Windows Using Caps Lock

I was beginning to think that there was no real purpose to the Caps Lock key other than to annoy you when it's accidentally turned on. Then Ghacks comes through and digs up an application called Capster (Windows only) that can really save you oodles of time with a concept that is so incredibly simple.

IE8 Activities & WebSlices for Firefox

It didn't take long for two different developers to start replicating some of the best new features in Internet Explorer 8: WebSlices and Activities. Come on, you knew extension developers would jump on the chance to give users very few reasons to switch to Internet Explorer.
