Auto Dial for Firefox: Fast Access to Your Most Visited Sites

Mozilla has been looking at different ways to optimize the user's experience when they open a new tab in Firefox. By default Firefox is set to display a blank page whenever a new tab is opened, and from there the user normally performs a search or navigates to one of their favorite sites.

Ubiquity: Where the Command Line Meets Firefox

Mozilla has released a new prototype extension that attempts to bring the command line to the browser. The extension, called Ubiquity, uses a set of predefined commands to do things like map an address the user has highlighted, shoot off an email, and more.

CyberNotes: Top 10 Wikipedia Themes for Stylish Users

According to Alexa Wikipedia is the 7th most visited site in the world only to follow behind companies like Google and Yahoo. Seeing that they receive millions of visitors each day it should come as no surprise that people would use the tools at hand to make their own customized layouts and designs for the site.

Extend Firefox 3 Winners

Mozilla has announced the winners of the Extend Firefox 3 add-on contest. This is where extension developers submitted their add-ons to try and win prizes like a MacBook Air, and the winners definitely deserved it. I did submit our CyberSearch extension to see if it'd win, but it looks like it didn't make the cut. :(

Mozilla Will Support Firefox 2 Until Mid-December 2008

After yesterday's article about Mozilla rolling out Firefox 3 update notifications it's clear that there are still some of you who don't intend on making the leap to Firefox 3 just yet. Maybe you're still waiting for extensions to get updated, have problems running Firefox 3 on your computer, or just don't want the new features it offers.

CyberNotes: Create Free iPhone Ringtones Using iTunes in Windows

One of the things that Apple hasn't made easy for iPhone owners is providing a way to create custom ringtones in Windows. If you're a Mac owner you can use GarageBand, but Apple doesn't provide that application on Windows.

CyberNotes: Best Experimental Firefox Extensions

Before a Firefox extension has a chance to become unbelievably popular it has to go through an experimental phase to make sure it's worthy of being added to Mozilla's extension site. This process can sometimes take months, and so today we wanted to show you some of the best experimental Firefox extensions that you probably don't know about.

Quickly Tag & Bookmark Sites in Firefox 3

One thing that I absolutely love about the new Firefox 3 is its ability to bookmark a site in one-click using the star button in the address bar. It doesn't organize my bookmarks, but it makes for a great way to temporary bookmark a site.

Firefox Mobile Progress Update

It was almost one year ago that we first got a glimpse of what Firefox Mobile looked like running on the Nokia N800. Then in January we saw some mockups of what their iPhone-like interface might look like for other devices, and even more recently we saw a video demonstration that knocked our socks off with an intuitive tab navigation system.

CyberNotes: Firefox Games

We all love our Firefox extensions that set out to make us more productive and social, but what about the ones that appeal to the entertainment side of our brain? That's right, there have been several extensions created that bring classic arcade games and more right to the Firefox browser.

Helpful Tip: Recover Lost Bookmarks in Firefox 3

Last year we provided a thorough guide on how you can recover lost bookmarks in Firefox, but as an anonymous reader pointed out some of the tips provided no longer work in Firefox 3. This is because Mozilla revamped the bookmarking system so that it performs better, and is also capable of more advanced functionality such as tagging.

Digg Given Preferential Treatment on Add-ons Site?

Yesterday Digg decided to launch their first Firefox 3 extension, and being a Firefox extension developer myself one of the first things I noticed was the preferential treatment they apparently received. Before I get into that let's take a look at their well-designed extension.

Mozilla Messaging Releases Snowl Prototype

Mozilla is apparently not going to sit on the sidelines while browsers such as Flock get all of the social fanfare. Instead they are trying to develop a way to integrate Web 2.0 services such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Talk, and more into a central location that makes following your friends easy. Huh, sounds like exactly what the Flock browser is for.

CyberNotes: Google Maps Firefox Extensions

Google Maps is hands down my favorite online mapping service because it has a simplistic design, which in the end makes it load extremely fast. Not only that but they offer features not found on other mapping services, including Street View, Wikipedia integration, and even walking directions.

CyberSearch 1.0.2: Pull Up Google Results Page Faster

Another day, another CyberSearch release. ;) Over the weekend I had some time to work on a new CyberSearch feature that I've periodically received requests for. Like most features I had to think this one through to ensure that it wouldn't interfere with the built-in Firefox keyword system.

Less Than 3% of Firefox Users Block Ads?

When you ask Firefox users what their favorite extension is they'll commonly say Adblock Plus. It's currently the second most popular extension on the add-ons site, and receives over 250,000 downloads every week. With numbers like that you'd expect the extension to be installed on nearly every copy of Firefox, but that's not the case.
