Cover Flow for Firefox Bookmarks

Apple has really been successful with their Cover Flow representation of album covers, and with their latest Leopard operating system they even added a Cover Flow view for browsing files. This has to leave you wondering why you're not able to browse your bookmarks in a similar fashion?

Amazon MP3 Downloader Available for Linux

Amazon MP3 has been getting a lot of great reviews for their 100% DRM-free music service that's been offered since September 2007. They actually have a rather large selection of music, and being able to play it on any of your devices without restrictions is a huge plus. And you don't pay any more for music from Amazon than you do on iTunes.

Adobe Air-based Xdrive Desktop Lite Launches

Adobe AIR 1.0 has officially shipped and now we're already starting to see applications built with the new platform. One such application is AOL's Xdrive Desktop Lite. It was designed for uploading and downloading files from AOL's Xdrive storage solution.  As a quick reminder, Xdrive is a service that allows users to store (for free) 5GB worth of data.

AltTab Mouse Shortcut

Ever since I released the Vista Flip3D mouse shortcut I've received a few emails from people who still prefer the Alt+Tab application switching (especially XP users who don't have Flip3D). I have since modified my Flip3D AutoHotkey script, and spun it into a different variation that works great with the Alt+Tab key combination.

Don’t Highlight Extensions When Renaming Files

One of the things that I always do on a fresh Windows installation is have it show the extensions on all of my files. I'm not sure how many of you do this, but it seems like I'm changing around extensions quite frequently so it makes a lot of sense for me.

Vista SP1 Download Leaked for Weeks

When Microsoft announced that Vista SP1 had completed earlier this week I was a little bit excited. The disappointment came when I read that it wouldn't be ready for public consumption until the middle of March due to issues select users have with drivers.

Customize Cursors with CursorFX

Stardock just released a new cursor management program called CursorFX (previously known as CursorXP). It is designed so that users can install any of the hundreds of cursor themes that have been created. One of my personal favorites is Uista, which is particularly slick on Vista.

Real Desktop… Remember BumpTop?

Do you remember back in 2006 when a 3D desktop called BumpTop was buzzing around the Internet? A prototype was supposed to be available "soon," and the middle of last year we were awestruck once again when BumpTop was demonstrated at the TED Conference. Here we are a year and a half later and we're still not able to download it.

Jungle Disk: Online Backups Using Amazon S3

I get asked all of the time what I believe is the best backup service, and the answer typically varies depending on the needs of the person. Some people need a lot of storage but not a lot of bandwidth, or visa versa. When you're considering what backup service to use I recommend checking out Jungle Disk, which in a way offers the best of all worlds.

Ultimate Software Update Monitor?

I'm still on a quest to find a great software update monitor so that I know when new versions of my favorite apps are released, and I just found a new one that looks promising. To recap we've showed you how to create your own software update monitor, reviewed UpdateStar, tried out AppSnap, played with File Hippo's Update Checker, and gave Secunia PSI a whirl.

Joomla 1.5 Features & Screenshots

Joomla 1.5 was just released earlier today, and it is a huge milestone for the content management system. There was so much excitement that this morning I had troubles even getting to their site to retrieve some information about the new version. Once we got in we grabbed several screenshots of the improved admin interface and posted them below.

Password Protect Your Photos

I'm sure at some point or another you've wanted to password protect a photo that you were sending to someone else. Maybe it was a confidential image that you didn't want to end up in the wrong hands, or a personal photo that you wanted to keep secret.

iTunes Video Rentals Hacked Already

It's inevitable that people would find ways to get the most out of Apple's new video rental service available via iTunes, but I expected it to be this easy. The hack that has emerged is like the oldest trick in the book when it comes to circumventing time-restricted materials on your computer, and I figured by this day in age companies like Apple would been a little wiser.

Installing KDE 4 & Feature Overview

I can't believe it's finally here, but KDE 4 has been pushed out the door! After about 8-months of rigorous testing of pre-release versions they have managed to get a stable edition of KDE 4 assembled and made available to the public.

Turn a Windows Mobile Device into a Wireless Router

Lifehacker found a really cool program called WMWifiRouter that will let you transform a Windows Mobile Device into a wireless router with little configuration! With that you would be able to create a ad-hoc Wi-Fi connection to the device so that it can be used as a modem. It's a simple solution to get wireless Internet on your laptop without purchasing additional hardware or data plans.

Donation Coder’s New Apps for the New Year

Donation Coder is working some of their programmers to the bone lately with all of the apps that are being developed! Just a month ago they released a dozen or so free programs, and this time around there are 16 new ones. Here are a few of them that really peaked my interest:

IE7Pro 2 Lets You Pause and Resume Downloads

IE7Pro just released version 2.0 to the public, and it has a few notable new features. For starters it has been modularized which will help increase its stability, and there is also a 64-bit version available on the download page. The biggest news, however, can be summed up by looking at the screenshot above.

CyberNotes: Backup Emails (Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail)

For one reason or another many email applications don't provide an easy way to backup all of your data. To me it seems like a no brainer to offer such a feature especially for online email services where you have a minimal amount of control over how you can export your data.

Personas Offers Better Firefox Skinning

One of the things that the Opera browser does way better than Firefox is skinning. In Opera you can go to their skin site, find a theme that you want to install, and preview it immediately in the browser. No restart is required.
