Bink.nu is reporting that WinHEC attendees did not receive a copy of Windows Vista like they have in previous years. They received a nice little "goodies" bag but the highly anticipated DVD was not there. So when is Microsoft going to distribute Beta 2? Hopefully soon otherwise the January 2007 release of Vista will probably get pushed back!
Windows Vista Beta 2 is expected this week for WinHEC attendees, but is it going to be enough for testers? Some believe that Microsoft will not be able to step up and deliver what is expected at this point.
If these prices are true, then it looks like Vista will cost as much as a computer does.
Vista Transformation Pack 4.0 was just released and it does a great job of giving your XP machine the Vista look. In December last year Windows Blinds released a new version of their software that was designed to provide Windows XP with transparent effects, however, it wasn't free. That is where the Vista Transformation Pack comes into play.
Paul Thurrott has said that the current build of Windows Vista is 5384.3 and could be designated as Beta 2. However, he also said that a last-minute fix could cause the build to be 5385.
Microsoft is trying to get users prepared for the release of Windows Vista in January. They are doing this by providing an "advisor" that will let them know if upgrades are needed to their computer in order to properly run Vista.
Microsoft has finally released the system requirements that will be needed to run Windows Vista. I am actually surprised at how low the system requirements are, but I guess there are different "modes" that you can run Vista in so that it isn't so memory and graphics intensive. Paul Thurrott has completed a micro-review of the Microsoft Windows Vista 5365. He goes through some of the new features that he has found in the build as well as well as the shell changes. Overall, this build has a bunch of minor updates. Nothing to jump up and down with, but it is still a nice release. I have definitely found this build to be faster and more stable than any previous builds.
If you jumped on the bandwagon and downloaded Vista 5365 then you might find some use in these tips and tricks. They offer some fixes to some major annoyances like how to disable the User Account Protection.
Finally, Vista 5365 (The April CTP) has now been released and surprisingly it was done on the weekend. Microsoft Connect testers can jump over and download it, but for those people that aren't testers you'll have to scrounge around for a Torrent.
Everyone thought that the next CTP of Windows Vista was going to be released to beta testers last Monday. However, this was not the case and it disappointed many people. It does appear that Windows Vista 5365 is undergoing some final 'inspections' and could possibly be released tomorrow (Friday).
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like the April CTP of Windows Vista will not be released today. Bink.nu has posted a letter from Paul Donnelly that was directed to the Windows Vista Beta Tester's Newsgroups that says they have no intentions of releasing the next CTP of Vista today.
Windows Vista 5365 is going to be the build that beta testers are going to receive on Monday around 1:00 PM EST. A few days ago build 5361 images were leaked to the Internet and struck some as interesting when they saw that Internet Explorer was labeled as version "7+".
Leaked images of Windows Vista 5361 have made it to the Web, and with the release of the April CTP on Monday (April 17th) many people are wondering if this is the build that will get released.
Microsoft has accidentally made links available to download Windows Vista build 5308. This is not the most current build that has been floating around the Internet, but this build can be directly downloaded from Microsoft. No key is provided (obviously) so you will have to do some work to find one.
The people over at the OSx86 Forums have gotten Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows Vista, to run on a Mac using Boot Camp.
