Travel through Time with YouTube Time Machine

It's Friday, and you've gotta be looking for a great way to kill some time. Right? Let me introduce you to the YouTube Time Machine. It's exactly what it sounds like. There is a timeline along the top that you drag to the year you want to review. It will then pull in videos that users have submitted that cover something from that year. Simple.

DropMocks: Easy Photo Sharing Done Right

I love when people develop tools that don't take a genius to use. Something that I could share with my parents and rest easy knowing that even they will be able to understand how it works. DropMocks is a fine example of just that.

View Source in Mobile Safari on iPhone

Most mobile browsers are not geared towards doing developer-related things like viewing the source code of a page. There's a nice bookmarklet, however, that will get you this functionality without too much trouble.

Website Performance Test and Optimizations

A few weeks ago I was browsing around looking for a website benchmark and optimization tool, and in doing so I stumbled across a real gem. WebPageTest.org is what I'll safely call a powerful set of data that you can quickly pull up about any site. Even better is the fact that you can have it speed test the site from one of a dozen different locations from around the world.

JayCut: Free Online Video Editor

Video editing is something that can kind of be a pain, and in some cases can even cost a lot of money if you don't already have decent hardware/software to do it. JayCut wants to help with both of those things. A free account will get you 2GB of storage and the ability to export/save up to 20 videos per month. I'd say that is more than sufficient for most people.

There are a lot of online services popping up that help you get fast access to your favorite tunes without having to drop a dime. One of my favorites is definitely Grooveshark, but there are a plenty of other alternatives out there. The one I'm going to talk about today is called Moof.

Host Your Own Download/Upload Speed Test

I use Speedtest.net quite a bit to help determine how well my Internet service is performing. Something I didn't realize until recently was that they actually have a "mini" version of the online service available for those of you who want to host some basic tests on your own servers for free.

Solipskier Brings Skiing to Your Browser, iPhone, and iPad

We don't write about iPhone games on the site too often, but this one hits a bit closer to home than most others in the App Store. This one was put together by a very talented group of game developers I know, and they've come up with something that's both fun and addicting.

Post to Evernote via Twitter

In the past year I've become a pretty big Evernote user, and have even gone as far as to purchase a premium account. Last week the Evernote team expanded their service even more with Evernote Trunk, which is a centralized area to find third-party hardware and software that works with Evernote.

Create Your Own Social News Site

Sites like Digg and Reddit have been becoming increasing popular because the news and stories that are put in front of the users are those that receive the largest number of votes. Reddit has let users create their own "Reddits" for awhile now, but a site called Slinkset offers some extensive customization while maintaining the fundamental structure of Reddit.

CyberKidz: Online Educational Games for Kids

Good educational games for kids can be hard to come by, and finding ones that are targeted towards a specific age group are even more rare. The website CyberKidzGames.com, however, does just that. All of their online games are broken down by ages ranging from 4 to 11, and from there they are all categorized.

One topic that is always sure to strike up a nerdy conversation is whether you should let your browser store your passwords. There is the obvious security risk of what happens when someone gets remote access to your computer, or even worse physical access.
