SlashDot Needs Your Help For Their Site Redesign

SlashDot has decided that it is time for a site redesign and they are having a contest to see who produces the best design. The winner will receive a new laptop, but you have to follow their criteria in your design. The most important thing is that you must use their existing CSS framework that they designed a few months ago when they started to plan for this redesign.

Yahoo Is Testing Out A New Homepage

It appears that Yahoo is testing out a new homepage with a completely redesigned layout. From the image you can tell that they are trying to condense all of their navigation into a few key spots (notably the sidebar). I believe that this is a nicer interface than the current Yahoo Homepage but it still seems to have a lot of information stuffed on to one page.

Will Shopify Replace eBay?

The competition with eBay has been rising with the release of Google Base and now another service called Shopify is going to be stepping into the ring. Shopify is currently in the beta stage but should be officially released for public use in May. They will allow users to create stores and add as many items as they want to those stores at no additional cost.

Zillow.com Allows Users To Search For Homes In 3D

Zillow is a real estate site that allows users to see information, such as price, on over 65 million homes. The homes do not have to be up for sale in order to be listed with information. That is why this is so great, because it is an easy way for you to find out how much your home is worth compared to the rest of your neighbors.

Yahoo Maps Beta Adds Satellite Images

Yahoo, in hopes to rival their competition, has finally added satellite images to their mapping system. After using it for a little while (I had to install Flash first) I started to like how smooth it ran. They did a really nice job putting it together, however, I don't believe that they did enough to pull people away from the already popular Google Maps.

Yahoo Offers Instant Search — Search Results As You Type

Yahoo is one of the leading search engines and to compete with their rivals they now offer an 'Instant' Search. It is interesting to try but is nothing you would want to use as your main search engine. It will only show one result as you are typing in your search which doesn't make it very useful.

Will Yahoo! Buy Digg?

Some sources are saying that Yahoo! could be paying $30 million to purchase the popular site Digg. This would be just another addition to Yahoo! who has been on a purchasing frenzy lately. I don't think that anyone would be surprised by this purchase, but Digg creator Kevin Rose says 'we are focused on features, not selling the company'. Guess we will have to wait this rumor out.

A slideshow has been put together of how The Million Dollar Homepage Evolved. The slideshow almost starts from the beginning and will show you how it progressed all the way up to now. ThePirateBay.org Gets Their eBay Auction Pulled

Just yesterday I had written an article on ThePirateBay.org selling themselves on eBay for a fundraiser technique to pay for their new $12,000+ server. The auction didn't last long because eBay was quick to pull it. The reason why we think it was pulled was because in the listing they said "we've decided to go prostitutes on you and sell ourselves for money".

ThePirateBay.org Upgrading Its Servers With Funds From eBay

The current host of the Windows Vista 5270 Torrent, ThePirateBay.org, will be upgrading its servers in order to meet the increasing demand for torrent files. How are they going to afford to do this $12,000 upgrade? They are selling themselves, actually renting themselves out for a night, on eBay.

AskMeNow Service A Good 411 Replacement

The AskMeNow service that has been released could be a good alternative to using 411. I know on my cell phone using 411 costs $1.25, and with Google Mobile I haven't had to use 411. Now there may be a nicer alternative if I don't want to use text messaging. AskMeNow uses automated menus and can get information like sports scores, stock quotes, directions, and more.
