You could certainly tell that the year was winding down in November and December when major news was pretty light. Because of this, we offered a handful of Helpful Tips that could potentially help you in a variety of different ways. Let’s not forget Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and all of the deals that came from that as well.

To help wrap up the year, CyberNet started our annual CyberNet Awards and gave them out to products, services and gadgets that in our opinion, deserved to be recognized. As we explained, there wasn’t much fame and glory associated with the award and winners didn’t receive a statuette, but it was fun none-the-less. Take a look…

–September 2007–

The month of September was all about Halo! It launched mid-September and turned into quite the money maker for Microsoft, bringing in $170 million in the first 24 hours.During the week prior to the launch of the popular Xbox 360 game, the ending of the game was leaked which caused quite the stir. Also in September came the big controversy over at Apple when Steve Jobs announced the iPod Touch, but also announced that the 8GB iPhone was receiving a major price cut — from $599 to $399. Oh, and then there was that whole situation with the ‘iBrick”.. remember that? Take a look at those headlines:

–October 2007–

We were seeing spots in October with the launch of Mac OS X 10.5 – Leopard. It officially launched on October 26th. Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal released his review of Apple’s Leopard operating system shortly before the official launch of it, and called it “Evolutionary not Revolutionary.” Another big date in October was Blog Action Day in which bloggers were encouraged to write about the environment. We spent the whole day on October 15th writing about how the technology that we use affects the environment.

July 2007

July was the month of changes for CyberNet! After spending two months designing and implementing a new design for the site from scratch, we launched it. We also worked on optimizing the site, and added a handful of new features like Avatar support, advanced thumbnail navigation, and more. Around the same time, we shared a few facts about ourselves and asked our readers to in turn share something about themselves in hopes of getting to know our community better. Here’s a re-cap of all of the changes that went on during July at CyberNet:

August 2007

August was a slow month to say the least, but the two topics that managed to appear in the news pretty regularly were Opera and Firefox. At the end of the month, the Opera team was working hard to get the Opera 9.5 download pushed out the door (our review here) while Mozilla was taking steps to improve upon their 50% retention rate for Firefox.

–May 2007–

May of 2007 was about Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Facebook. Apple’s Steve Jobs and Microsoft’s Bill Gates made a rare appearance together on the same stage as part of the D Conference. Their chat with Walt Mosberg and Kara Swisher was interesting to say the least, and the conversation included the mentioning of those Mac vs. PC commercials where Jobs said that the point of them was for Mac and PC’s to like each other. Riiiiight… Have you concluded that all of those commercials have been about Mac’s and PC’s liking each other? I haven’t. Microsoft came up with a way to poke back at Apple like Apple has done with the “Get a Mac” campaign by putting a big bin in the Zune Headquarters building with a sign that said “iPod Amnesty Bin – Bite me!” Oh, and not to forget Facebook, this was the month that they launched Facebook Platform which they called the “Internet’s Social Operating System.”

I think it’s safe to say the June 2007 will be known as the month of the iPhone. It launched on June 29th, so the whole month was all about iPhone hype! While the iPhone managed to hog the spotlight, Google managed to steal it away momentarily on three different occasions when they made three acquisitions.

–March 2007–

Personalized homepages were spotlighted in March with Yahoo completing a huge redesign for My Yahoo! and Google launching a variety of dramatically changing themes for their Personalized Homepages. Additionally, it was a rough month for YouTube after Viacom sued them for $1 Billion dollars. They also had to deal with being banned (and then unbanned) in Turkey and Thailand. –April 2007–

The month of April started out with a bunch of fooling! Thanks to April Fool’s day of course. Several sites decided to have some fun with this notable day of practical joking including Google with their “Free TiSP (Toilet Internet Service Provider) Broadband Internet, and ThinkGeek who claimed they were shipping the iPhone nearly three months early. Then of course there was the launch of Joost which caused quite the hype as well. Here’s a look at those headlines:

CyberNet’s Year in Review: January-February

–January 2007–

January of 2007 can be summed up into two words: iPhone and Vista! It was a huge month for both Microsoft and Apple – Microsoft finally got Vista pushed out the door and Apple made their big announcement at Macworld that the iPhone was coming. Here’s a look at those headlines:

–February 2007–

While the iPhone and Vista were still fresh in the minds of technology enthusiasts in February, there were some other big ‘newsworthy’ items. Google made the news by finally opening up Gmail to everybody and introducing Google Apps Premier edition while Yahoo made the news after launching Yahoo Pipes and Yahoo Messenger Integrated with Yahoo Mail Beta. Yahoo Pipes may have gotten off to a rough start, but it’s turned into a pretty powerful service. Here’s a look at those headlines:
