Music controls chrome

The Unity Music Player extension for Google Chrome is an extremely nice way to manage music playback for well over a dozen different streaming websites. Many of the most popular ones including Pandora, Grooveshark, and Songza are all included in the mix. If the music site you’re using supports being able to thumbs up/down the music you’ll also be able to do that from within the extension as well.

The really nice thing is that Mac users will be able to control the music playback using the media keys available on the keyboard. That means the Apple Remote will also work with the streaming music so that you can control the playback even when you’re not in front of your computer.

Here is a full list of the services supported by the Unity Music Player extension:

  • Pandora
  • Google Music
  • Grooveshark
  • Hypemachine
  • 8Tracks
  • Bandcamp
  • WeAreHunted
  • Rdio
  • Songza
  • ThisIsMyJam
  • iHeart Radio
  • Thesixtyone
  • MOG
  • Mixcloud
  • Youtube (very beta, and only on

This is a great extension that I recommend everyone try out if the music service you use is supported.

  1. Jordan from here — Thanks for the loving write-up!

Let me just throw it out there that the newest version of the Unity extension adds media keys support to Windows as well as Mac! It’s still Chrome-only for the time being, but FireFox and Safari are on their way, too.

In the last couple days we’ve also fixed a conflict with an experimental Google Music feature that Google was testing so that’s working again.

And of course, we welcome any and all feedback, suggestions of new services you’d like to see supported delivered to or tweeted at @swayfm.

ps. For developers, we have a drop-in javascript SDK that adds media keys support to any other radio / music apps for which we haven’t already added supported. Just shoot us an email: :-)

    • Awesome Jordan! Seeing that I use this on both Windows and Mac computers I really appreciate you getting the media keys support brought over to the Windows side. Keep up the great work… it’s easily one of my most used extensions.

    • Hi Jordan, thanks for the great extension. If possible, I would love to see support for Amazon Cloud Player.
