I think at this point most of our readers have heard of the excellent CCleaner app that will remove a lot of the temporary files and other junk sprawled out across your PC. It’s always worth keeping an eye on what some similar apps are capable of doing since you may find one that fits your needs even better. For that reason I want to point out System Ninja.
In many ways System Ninja does the same kind of stuff as CCleaner, but it’s wrapped up in a different interface. Out-of-the-box System Ninja only focuses on being able to clean up files and leaves the Windows Registry untouched, which is largely to keep from accidentally messing anything up on your system. However, if you jump over to the System Tools tab you can pick from several different plugins that are available including one for scanning and cleaning up the Registry.
Here is an overview of the app based on the developer’s description:
- Powerful Junk Cleaner
System Ninja contains a unique dual cleaning engine. It scans your entire hard drive performing a thorough initial scan, identifying junk based on heuristics. System Ninja then continues to check locations that are known to contain junk based on a number of routines.
- Useful Startup Management
The integrated startup manager allows you to dictate what can and can’t run when you turn on your computer. It supports Run, RunOnce and Sheduled Tasks files and registry keys. System Ninja contains a database of several hundred common startup items, used to provide information and advice so you know what to remove.
- Powerful Process Manager
The process manager can forcibly terminate any process running on your computer. It can even remove multiple processes simultaneously.
- Turbocharged With CleanSync
CleanSync is a new system added in version 2.1 that silently downloads new cleaning routines while System Ninja is running.
- Supports Ninjascript
Ninjascript is a scripting language developed to rapidly add new cleaning routines to System Ninja. It can remove registry keys, files, directories and processes, plus identify files by name, extension or MD5 checksum.
System Ninja comes in both installer and portable formats depending on how you want to use it.
