I have been receiving some inquiries regarding the compatibility between the free Comodo Firewall and Windows Vista. Comodo Firewall only works with 32–bit versions of Windows 2000/XP/2003, and a little while back I thought I would try it out on Vista. It definitely had some issues, but there is some hope on the horizon…
Comodo Firewall 3 will be compatible with Windows Vista, but it is still a little ways away from being released. As of right now the release date for Comodo Firewall 3 Beta is April 16, 2007, which I am thoroughly looking forward to. Here is what they say in the forum about what to expect:
- Currently Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4 does not support any version of Windows Vista and does not support any version of Windows that is 64 bit.
- Windows Vista and Windows 64 bit compatibility will be added in the next version of Comodo Firewall (version 3.0.x.x).
- The current beta release date for the next version of Comodo Firewall Pro is currently scheduled for April 16, 2007 however this is not carved in stone and it may change.
So not only will it work with Vista but they will also be adding support for 64–bit versions of Windows. That is great news for a lot of people!
Right now I am without a firewall on Vista, with the exception of the one built-in. The Windows Firewall is far from extravagant and I miss the extensive configurability that a standalone firewall has to offer, such as the Comodo Personal Firewall. Seeing that I’m a Beta addict I’ll be one of the first people to jump on the bandwagon for the next version of the award winning firewall!
