Keeping your Windows Registry clean is something that can be quite a chore. Comodo, who happens to make an incredible free firewall tool, also has a free registry cleaner that not many people know about. One thing that I love the most is that you can download the typical installer, or you can grab the portable format that requires no installation.

When it comes down to features there isn’t much explanation needed. Here are some of the features and benefits the site lists out though:

  • Improves the health and performance of your computer - Comodo Registry Cleaner conducts a deep scan of your registry to remove corrupt and unnecessary entries that are causing system slow down and other errors.
  • Start-up Manager – Comodo Registry Cleaner contains a built-in ‘Start Up’ manager which allows you specify which programs are launched when you start your computer.
  • Simple and Easy to use - Fast ‘One-Click’ scanning and a user-friendly interface make it easy for even non-technical users to keep their computers running in peak condition.
  • Your data is safe - Comodo Registry Cleaner performs a full back up of your registry before every scan. This means that you can quickly roll-back your Registry to its pre-scan state if the removal of an entry causes problems.
  • Timetable scans to run when you choose - Registry Cleaner features a customizable scheduler that lets you timetable scans according to your preferences. Perhaps you wish to check your system first thing in the morning – maybe you prefer once a week in the middle of the night. Choose the time that’s right for you and let Registry Cleaner take care of the rest.
  • You’re in control - granular configuration of settings allows you to create custom scans and means the application will scan your system according to your preferences – not the other way around.

In the past I’ve used CCleaner for most of my computer cleaning needs, and it’s always done an incredible job. The only thing is that CCleaner doesn’t focus on just the registry… so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it wouldn’t be as thorough as some dedicated registry cleaners. Comodo ran some tests to compare its product with those of the competition, and theirs wins hands down. Sure the tests are run by Comodo, but they do provide all the information and installed software for their test machine.

You obviously don’t have to believe their comparison, but it’s not like they are trying to sell you their registry cleaner. It’s 100% free, and doesn’t even require an installation. So you can be your own judge… just remember to backup your registry.

Comodo Registry Cleaner for Windows

  1. I wonder how they can keep it free…

  2. They don’t show if the cleaner is *too* thorough though. I’d like to be sure it doesn’t remove items it’s not supposed to remove before I use this..

  3. Since when does more results found directly relate to a better product? A better test (in my opinion) would be to see how it actually impacted performance.

On a side note, is the ‘Name’ and ‘Mail’ fields for comments really not required now?

Well, that’s what the backup is for. I know this used to be a problem with registry cleaners years ago, but I think these days they have gotten significantly better about not deleting stuff they should.

It’s never been required to leave a comment on this site. We try to make it as easy as possible to leave a comment, and so we’ve never required those field for those of you who want to be left anonymous.

I wonder how many registry cleaning tools there are in the world? :?:

  6. I have been using this cleaner for a few months, it does an excellent job of explaining the categories it “intends” to delete so you understand. I have also found it good at categorizing unsafe entries. Never had a problem with it, tho I recommend a pre-clean with something simple like CCLEANER first

  7. Best free reg cleaner; other than ccleaner I have tried.
Most do not work or delete items needed.

  8. finally something compatible with 64-bit.
just what i was looking for…thanks!

  9. Nice find ryan. iam keeping this one.

  10. Tried it after first running CCleaner and Glary Utilities and it found lots of entries which I deleted. However, soon after was going to do a defrag. Error message – no defragmenter installed. The registry entry had been wiped. Restored the backup and everything was ok again. I then tried Revo Uninstaller

  11. This is part of the Comodo System Cleaner [system-cleaner.comodo.com] which is also free. The only problem had is Comodo Registry Cleaner did get a little confused cleaning some ActiveX errors. RegScrub XP was able to clean them properly (residual junk from Copernic’s Agent and Desktop Search.) I like those 2 with Crap Cleaner. Stopped using Wise, Desktop Maestro, RegSeeker and others which take too darn long. Wise is a real dog. My guess is it doesn’t cache the registry well, if at all.

  12. I like it very much. It’s thorough and caused no problems for my system – keeps it clean and responsive. Replaced an old favorite, jv16 Power Tools, because it started to delete registry entries related to Norton Internet Security, rendering it inoperable after reboot. Comodo leaves them alone. I still have CCleaner for quick work but my in-depth go-to option is Comodo. Their free stuff puts a lot of paid software to shame.

  13. :P Hello

I have been looking for a good free registry, I rarely use registry cleaners nowadays,

  14. don't use with vistaFebruary 28, 2009 at 8:30 am

used comodo reg cleaner then later ran disk cleanup which after an age (when it usually takes seconds)totally wiped out all my programs and i had to do a f11 system recovery

  15. I’ve had comodo system cleaner for Vista for almost a month and i’ve had no problems with it.

  16. Good Post, I am asking permission to copy this post. 8)

  17. Just ran Comodo reg cleaner for the first time on XP PC and pretty much wrecked my system. Caution in use recommended

  18. Comodo has been fine, but I’ve begun to notice desktop files being gone after I run it and reboot. Then last night my son ran it before going to bed, and today the bcmwltry.exe error keeps coming up on his comnputer. I think Comodo has some problems currently.
