You’ve probably heard about CompUSA shutting down all 103 of their stores over the next few weeks, and word just got out that the inventory clearance sale starts soon. As it stands right now the first markdown will be 10% off of everything in the store, and that will be happening on Wednesday, December 12.
What might be even more important, however, is that both returns and employee discounts end on Tuesday (tomorrow). That way there is a little less concern about employees compounding their discount on the already reduced prices, but there is still a risk factor for consumers since you don’t have the comfort of being able to return the merchandise.
Additional inventory clearance markdowns are expected over the next few weeks, but I’m guessing that it will happen rather slowly since they will obviously try to minimize their losses. Go here to find one of the remaining 103 stores closest to you.

do you think they’ll have video game consoles on sale (ps3, 360, wii)?
If they do, I’d imagine they’ll probably sell out pretty quickly.
The nearest ones are 150 miles out from my home. I’m not that willing to do it. Especially that I don’t drive – yet. Haha! Will the “sale” be applied to online sales too?
They went out of business here (Columbus, Ohio) about a year ago. They marked everything up prior to the discounts and there were no good deals until the very end of the sale.
Wow, you’d think they’d want to get rid of everything and offer great prices. That’s crazy.
Well, they are a bit overpriced to begin with. So the 10% will take it down to about the normal retail price, and then the further discounts will kind of be icing on the cake. I just saw somewhere that the stores will likely be closing in mid-February, so they will surely space out the discount intervals.
The way I heard it Comp USA was ultimately owned by Carlos Slim does this name sound familiar, it should he’s the richest Mexican citizen in the world out pacing Bill Gates this year due to Bill’s philanthropy of donations of his wealth.
Mr. Carlos Slim isn’t giving anything away although I do believe he bought some of the One Child Per PC units. But business is business as far as he is concerned so no deep discounts unless they got a heck of a deal from a manufacturer which I doubt given Comp’s usual prices before… they were going out of business.
Bye.
Huh, it looks like you’re right. Carlos Slim is a “majority shareholder” which is an interesting observation. I wonder if that’s why their prices have always been so darn high!
