@SLA: I always run my computers with UAC disabled and have never had any problems. In fact, it fixes every application that has troubles running on Vista for me. As far as installing applications I always disable UAC for at least the first few days while I install applications just to avoid the prompts. I'm not sure what Adobe is talking about but I've never run into a single problem of disabling UAC in my 8-months of testing Vista.

@SLA: This was an overall Vista review. Yes, we did the review using a machine with Vista installed, but we also mentioned all of the different version in the beginning, and also pointed out that Home Basic is the "bare-bones" version.

Although, with all of the cool features we mentioned that only come with Vista Ultimate, I guess the picture could be a bit misleading.

User Account Control - This is when you try to do something such as deleting a system file, that Vista requires special permission for. [...] This feature can always be disabled in the Control Panel by going to your user properties.

NO, YOU CAN'T. :( You can disable it on your grandmother's PC, but not on your own. If you are an experienced user, and you often install new software (I do it at least 2 times per week), you have to leave UAC enabled... Quote from Adobe Support Knowledgebase:

On Vista, with User Account Control disabled, there is no write and execute access to the %TEMP% folder.

   That means that you will be unable to run any self-extracting installers! Damn!!!

This UAC feature is simply ANNOYING! Try to install 10 applications at once, and you will get 50 such "Allow/Cancel" windows and screens. And that is for an administrator account!!! You will HATE this! Microsoft definitely have to do something with this stupid UAC in Windows Vista SP1.

P.S. BTW, why there is Windows Vista "Home Basic" box pictured on the beginning of this article? This review is about "Ultimate" edition, right?

We're very glad, too. We were wondering what we were going to do for the review because we didn't have any machines running Vista so the PC came just in time. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get all of my computers transferred over with the business licenses that my university provided, but I do have to admit that the Media Center functionality is miles ahead of what Media Center 2005 offered.

Thanks Rich, we were thinking of how we could write the review so that people would actually want to look at it. Everytime I see lengthy reviews it is almost discouraging, so we were shooting for one or two sentence descriptions with a lot of screenshots. This way you can scroll through it and look for things that catch your attention.
