My preference is a clean and compact theme. Currently I’m using Fusion Alternative, which is similar to the Netscape 8.1 theme.

I use Orbit Grey. Not the sexiest at first glance, but really nice and clean and easy to use

yes i think this is people trying the themes that look “cool” (most extreme, eye catching), and probably quickly finding they arent usable. the most usable themes, imho tend to be some of the blandest at first glance. look at Tango for Opera – superbly unconfusing.
basically this stat is for downloads, says nothing about whats actually in use

I think there are more people than not that use the default theme, but I do have to admit that a lot of them look classy. The Qute theme is one of the few that I have actually used in the past because the icons are very nice, but I am still more of a plain & simple kind of guy so I stick with the default theme.

I too wonder how many of the theme developers actually use their own themes. I would guess not many because I know that if I took the time to develop a theme I would probably get sick of it by the time I am done. Of course, I would therefore feel bad if I spent all that time and didn’t use it. Some of the ones I mentioned above though are so hard on the eyes that I don’t know how anyone could use them.

I usually tend to think like you do when it comes to themes and skins, but for Firefox it’s the other way around. I don’t like the default theme. It’s too pointy! I use the Qute theme. I suffered when they took some time to make it compatible with 2.0.

But about the themes you picked. You think the people who created them actually use them? Maybe it’s something like: “oh, let’s see how this looks. Uh, funky, gonna upload it.”
