What I actually think I want to look for is an extension to popup with the destination URL when I hover over the link as well. It would be a lot like Opera, and I want that so that I can ditch the Status Bar.

Try using fission. It shows you the link your mouse is over in the url bar. But you have to set it to do that. It also puts the progress in the url bar so you can disable the status bar

Ryan maybe you should consider installing greasemonkey at least to ‘test for usefulness’. It’s definitely a keeper!!

The quick find can be extremely annoying. Sometimes it’s triggered even when I’m typing in a text box. I’m unable to replicate it, but I can usually fix it be opening the normal find box and closing it.

Yeah, I have that happen as well but never thought to open the Find box and then close it. I always restarted the browser but I could see how that would work…you could always disable the quick find and then use the specific keyboard shortcuts mentioned in the article.

There is a beautiful Firefox extension [addons.mozilla.org] It changes the cursor to indicate the target of a link (by adding a small icon to mouse cursor). Personally I can’t live without this extension.
