One of my favorite tricks is outputting a directory to a text file. dir /b > filename.txt.

The /b uses "bare name" format.

That also works well with the tree command.

tree /f > filename.txt

I'm looking for a native Windows terminal. I might as well just stick with what I'm using right now: Linux.

Thanks for trying to find a solution though. :)

Why won’t they add a decent terminal app to Windows? (No, not the Command Prompt, that application looks old.) It might lure some Linux users back to Windows, who knows…

That would be nice to see it built-in, and I thought that Microsoft was supposed to have a better command line coming out with Vista. I can't remember though. I do know a few people who have switched to Mac's primarily because they wanted the integrated terminal.

A few responses i got:

“I though Google were a search engine” - Then just walks off
“All this software is pre-installed by Microsoft, Our company installs no extra software on these PC’s” - Who knew Google And AOL software where now being pre-installed by Microsoft
“Allows for a better Web Experience” - Linking to AOL Software

Gotta love people. I have actually heard the one about Microsoft installing the software. That's when you can't help but wonder where these people get their information.

It's "beck and call".

Pieter wrote:
Why won’t they add a decent terminal app to Windows ...It might lure some Linux users back to Windows, who knows…

If your gripe is with the limited command/scripting capabilities, Cygwin can give you most (all?) Linux terminal power in Windows.

http://www.cygwin.com/

If you're referring only to appearance and behavior of the UI ("looks old"), you can try Console or Poderosa, both of which can be configured to handle Cygwin sessions rather than cmd.exe sessions. Console is simpler, more stable, and more recently updated, but Poderosa is more powerful.
