It just wouldnt load at startup.. then next time you start up firefox it would reinstall, but keep the old options.

copied places, downloads, cookies, and form history sqlite files from Windows XP SP3 to Firefox 3.6.13 under Ubuntu 10.4.1, and so far seems to work- old bookmarks are all showing. Course I didn’t want to lose the new ones, but no option for merge. Before I had created a new profile name mkhm, and imported the bookmarks, but could not find it again, and profiles.ini didn’t show it. Insane choice of default profile folder name 6ethwil5.default- you must use that profile finder in help! regards

Nice piece but it seems then the firefox is always accessing the XP partition, which is lousy techcraft, n’est pas- if it gets trashed, corrupted, or simply inaccessible. Or it can corrupt the Windows stuff simply by the variations of OS’s or some Windows permission shock. Wouldn’t it be much preferable to copy over the profile to the Ubuntu partition, and access internally???

Secondly- in copying over info and preferences, (prev. autocomplete, downloads, bkmarks) they (Ubuntu) say to copy the sqlite data files- are these identical between Windows and Ubuntu- the different OS’s won’t make it go crazy? Well I’m about to try it (backup up existing files) and will let you know. Anything to add about this circa Dec 2010 info?

pete and bob,

make a directory by typing “mkdir /media/xp”. This is called the mount point.
edit your /etc/fstab (as root or using sudo). If your xp partition is on /dev/sda1, add a line:

/dev/sda1 /media/xp ntfs defaults 0 4

Save it. Your xp directory will now mount every time you boot in Linux.
Test it out by typing “mount /dev/sda1″.

I have the same problem as Bob : My xp drive was not mounted. Can you tell me how to mount the xp drive?

I have come to use my FF3 profile on Windows XP and Ubuntu (8.04).
There are some inconveniences though…
Whenever I start up FF in Ubuntu after having run it on Windows, it says that there probably is another instance running which I ought to shut down. I resolve this by deleting the lock object that maybe Windows has kindly left behind.
But then (in both WIndows and Ubuntu) FF behaves like it has just been upgraded, checking every addon for available updates instead of just booting up. How can I fix these two problems?
