Now Firefox-3.6 has a default of 6 max-persistent-connections-per-server.
I was very surprised, when I tried it on my server and saw how many concurrent connections
it used…

More connections use more resources on the server and have a higher tendency to produce network or server trouble.
Still, the possible number of downloads you could select (without “babysitting”),
would be limited with that approach.
Why hasn’t Firefox come up with a better solution for downloads?

I do not see, why all downloads should be done at the same time.

If those where queued, it would not put unneeded stress on servers
and you will get your first download completed earlier,
even the whole process could take less time (depending on the circumstances).

Thanks for that – I’ve used things like DTA and FlashGot before, but they always seem a bit unstable. This will mean I can use standard Firefox stuff to do the same thing.

I am wondering if mine was due to FasterFox, but then I check and I had disabled that extension when I went into FF 2.0b2. Must have been form something else. Nonetheless great tip.
