According to many reviews, Ready Boost is best for "older" computer systems than newer ones.

If you have a new computer with i7 and 9Gb DDR3 ram, it won't matter (as much) since you can't really tell if Ready Boost is used since the system is already fast!

It'll work better if it's used with older PC like the Pentium D's with 2Gb ram.

Finally, the max. amount is only 4Gb for Ready Boost so don't bother using an 8Gb flash drive since it's limited to 4gb only. Microsoft hasn't stated whether or not it'll change that limitation!

Hi - this didn't work for my SD card - is this there something more that must be done for cards as opposed to USB drives? I'll try it with my external harddrive next.

google for ReadyBoost Monitor. that tiny tool shows you if it works well.

another way to check is the Resource Monitor integrated to vista. just roll up the disk info and sort by file and you will notice your flash drive being present if you managed to enable it and it is used.

Following the instructions by author Ryan, I configured Kingston Data Traveller 2 GB flash. Process went flawless. I allocated 1 GB ( Installed RAM = 512 MB))for ready boost. Still not sure whether it helps but at least its not any problem.
Thanks Ryan.
