CyberWare: Start Your Programs In A Flash With Launchy

Tracking Down Great Software For You!
A few days ago when I wrote up an article on WinRoll “Nate The Great” commented with a few programs that he really likes. One of those programs was Launchy and I thought I’d give it a shot since it sounded useful.
What is Launchy? “Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes!” It actually reminds me of the search box that Vista has on the Start Menu because both let you quickly find your programs and documents after typing only a few characters.
I’ve been using Launchy on my XP machine for about a day now and it is absolutely great. The only downside is that you have to remember that you have it! I often find myself still going to the Start Menu to start programs even though Launchy is much quicker. I am sure I’ll get used to it though.
Here are a few screenshots:

TBH i just use Google desktop search, if you set it to sidebar mode and drag off the search bar to the top of the screen it does the same thing as launchy just with all of your computer by default. You can also use the sidebar as a handy notepad if you remove all the other gadgets. One thing i do like about launchy is its skins tho, makes it look really nice.
Another Google failing there – they need to change their look a bit, add some of the fancy glass effects or integrate it more with Windows so that WindowBlinds can skin it. Same for their web pages – Windows Live ain’t brilliant but it looks very stylish.
Frankly, Google Desktop is my solution for the same. But yeah, eventually; they might want to move to a stylish look
I’m actually surprised that Google hasn’t gotten to the point of letting people create skins. That would definitely give them an edge over other search solutions like the Windows Desktop Search.
