demonoid

The title says it all! Demonoid, a BitTorrent tracker, has been down since November 2007 when the Canadian Recording Industry forced them to close their doors. TorrentFreak reported today that the site would be resurrected under a new administrator, but I don’t think anyone was expecting that it would happen so quickly.

While it’s sad to report that Deimos is no longer in control of the site I’m definitely pleased to see it back up and running. I went to see if I could still hand out invites, but it looks like that system hasn’t been put back in place. I’ll keep an eye out so that when we do get some invites we can give a few out to some of our readers.

Other than that the site seems to be running pretty smooth. There haven’t been that many torrents uploaded thusfar today, but I’m sure in no time it will be re-populated.

Here’s the welcome back message that has been posted:

Since a few months ago, Deimos, the site administrator, lacks the necessary time to take care of the website, because of personal matters he’s been needing to attend to. For this reason, he has decided to leave the site staff.

Before leaving, he assigned a new site administrator from among his friends to take care of the site. The old moderator team will continue helping with the site, unchanged. We will try to keep running everything just as it always has been.

The trackers and website seem to be working properly, and should any issues arise, they will be taken care of as soon as possible. The site might be going on and offline over the next days as we work out any problems.

Welcome back, and enjoy your stay!

It’s really hard to believe that what’s often claimed to be the best private torrent tracker ever is once again active.

  1. Just in time for The Office

  2. This is the BEST news I have had for a looooooooooooong time! Demonoid is, and always will be, the most reliable BT site in the universe.

  3. Great news. There are some good alternatives out there, but none can hold a candle to Demonoid.

  4. I’ve been waiting for this news ever since they went down, as several times they would put up their tracker and then take it back down and constantly were relocating the host.

Demonoid was my first experience with a private torrent site, and since have moved on up in the hierarchy of private torrent sites, but Demonoid is still one of my favorites.

Oh btw Ryan, I just tried and I was able to generate invite codes on the site, so I would assume the invite system is up and working. Though I haven’t invited anyone to the site, since it went down, so I haven’t actually tested out inviting someone yet.

  5. As I recall before Demonoid went down, it was the largest private bittorrent tracker in the world (or something like that).

The general public loves Demonoid because of it’s quality torrents, the number of seeders and download speeds, the number of torrents, and the diverse content that was available on Demonoid. However, it is also loathed by many big users of private torrent sites, b/c of its lack of a ratio requirement and similar rules which maintain a quality private torrent site and it’s how easy it was to get access to the site (via invite or open registration days each month). They often consider it a quasi-public tracker.

Nevertheless, I’ve always considered Demonoid to be an incredibly good torrent tracker.

  6. Im my opinion what made demonoid good was that despite having not a very strict private tracker like policies, the user comments were always helpfull and rarely was there spam comments.Demonoid rules.

  7. Now all you guys can go back to torrenting your favorite television series. :)

Seriously though, why don’t you just use Hulu?

It does have a wide variety of content, and that is one of the reasons that I love it the most. And it does look like the invitations are back…thanks for the heads up.

The comments on the site definitely help determine the legitimacy of the files being posted. The comment quality is definitely way better than the other sites out there.

I use Hulu all of the time, but I think some people like using it because they are able to take the shows with them on their portable devices and what not. They don’t actually have to be connected to the Internet to watch them. Not only that but people use the site for things other than shows.

  9. will are old user names work

Yes, Demonoid retained their site and databases, so your old username and password will work still.
