The creatures appear to be ghosts, actually. The triangle headband is a traditional element in the illustration of ghosts in Japan.

I think my favorite was the UFO. It is something I probably wouldn’t notice had it not been pointed out. Of course, I wouldn’t have seen any of them since it only happens at 3:14AM!

My gut says that they are going to change these images on special holidays as well, just like they do for the Google logo. For that reason they might be keeping the collection of themes small so that they don’t have to edit so many.

They could always change the time to add an element of surprise to it? 3:14 PM probably would have been a better idea, that way at least more people would be able to catch it.

If your going to have an easter egg, why only have it available for one minute of the day during an obscure hour? Really, one minute during the middle of the night. Google can do better than that.

I would have thought some user action would have caused it to appear.
