Wii Laptop There is no doubt that the Wii causes enough damage as it is from arms being whipped through the air as excitement builds in a game. Heck, there is even a site, Wii Have A Problem, that is dedicated to sharing everyone’s stories on how they got injured or what objects they have broken. All of this commotion comes from one little video game system that has motion sensitive controllers.

So now Engadget decided to go all out and assemble the Wii console into a laptop…thereby forming the ultimate weapon. I’ll get into that in a second, but first checkout this video of the Wii laptop:

It has everything from a 7-inch screen to a built-in power supply, which gives you nearly everything you need to play your favorite Wii games no matter where you are. So what’s the problem? Swinging arms! I could only imagine the number of people that would get hurt when they are on a airplane or a bus traveling somewhere with a portable system like this. With the Wii controllers it would feel natural to swing your arms and I’m sure it would be tough to hold yourself back. Thank goodness this isn’t a mass-produced device. :D

I do have to admit that this “laptop” was very well designed and they plan on revealing all of the juicy design details next Tuesday. With the Wii’s small size the whole package measures just 8.5 x 7.7 x 2-inches, but what I really want to know is how much it weighs. Maybe they’ll divulge that detail later on.

  1. That is flippin’ awesome. I’m really interested in reading the tutorial but I don’t dare try something like that on my Wii. I simply don’t trust myself. :|

I might try [wiimotestraps.netfirms.com] someday though.

  2. That does look pretty cool, and hopefully you have some soldering skills before you try and attempt it?

  3. My dad said he’ll help me with it. I would probably solder my finger to one of the LEDs or something. :)

  4. :D Yeah, it’s really something that you just have to get used to, and when you’re working with these machine made boards the soldering points are a little smaller and a little trickier.

  5. If only they sold these commercially :D . The Wii is a bit of a large investment to do something like this to, especially when it’s in such short supply. The laptop is definitely cool, though. I remember when Sony released something like this for the PS1. It was an attachable screen. It is even more of a natural thing to do for the Wii, as it has built in WiFi. You could go turn your local Starbuck’s into a Cyber-Cafe  .

I also liked the controller mod, however, those seem to be in short supply lately, too. I’d wait off a little while until I could find a store that actually has replacement models in stock. Nonetheless, this does seem like a good beginner’s hardware modding project. Good luck, Max! :)

I completely forgot about Sony doing this with the PS1, but that was only after the PS1 got as small as a personal CD player. I guess the size is a drawback for any of these companies to create things like that, but I think they should sell that Wii on eBay just to see how much it goes for. :D

  7. I would try this, but I only have one Wii, and I can’t seem to find any more to buy. Hell, even the ‘motes are out of stock.

Of course they had to wait until the PSOne came out! No one wants to be carrying around something like [dell.com] ;) . You’re right, they should sell this on eBay, but only after making a second one for themselves :D . They could even start a business :!:

@Darshan: You are supposed to read all of the previous posts before you comment :| .

Even if they were in stock there is always the risk that you could fry the system. I wonder if this guy actually got it to work on the first system that he attempted it on?

  10. The point is, though, that if they are in stock and you happen to fry the system, if money is no object, then you can just go and pick up another one. And I’d put my money on “No, he completely screwed up the first time”.
