I like this version better - if I want to post on a wall I don't have to scroll past a million applications first and people will stop assuming everyone uses crap like super wall. The thing we have to remember is that as the audience of this blog its likely we're familiar with the internet, we understand the wizzy technologies that power it and we see that the new Facebook is just better.

However with great success comes masses of people who are less than internet literate, and once these people get used to something they stick with it. It's for this reason that a lot of technology stagnates - people don't like change and the people provide the money to the industry.

It looks like the general consensus for most of you is that people need to quite whining and just take the time to get used to it. We're creatures of habit and when something changes, it definitely takes time to readjust.

Kent Bunn wrote:

Basically the new design is VERY poorly optimized for landscape oriented screens. Just try exploring Facebook w/ a wide laptop, and see how much vertical scrolling you’re forced into.

This is actually something I noticed as well and bugs the heck out of me!

The new layout is nice. BUT it's also got one serious flaw that bugs the hell out of me. And is NOT something that can be tweaked by the user to "fix"

The new interface has 2 new bars across the window. First there's the light blue "welcome/send feedback" bar that hopefully will go away soon. Then under that is the new main menu bar, which used to be a block off to the left side instead.

The problem is, that widescreen laptops are now the norm. And widescreen desktop monitors are heading that way as well. A horizontal stripe takes up a significant portion of the screen real estate on a landscape oriented screen. With huge amounts of wasted space on the left and right of it as well. Certain apps (Warbook) that then create a scrollable "subwindow" within your facebook session, add even more cruft to crowd the window.

Totally agreed Chris. I find the new layout much cleaner and it's easier to find the things that matter without having to wade through tons of useless (and often similar) applications. I actually had a friend, who was using other networking tools, telling me: "I like the new Facebook, I finally understand it!" This guy will be using FB more because of the new layout..

Perhaps we should start a new group: "2,000,000 for the new Facebook layout." ;) (I know, most people are against change so we'd never win.. :P )

People just need to try it out and get used to it. When I first tried it out, it took me about 1-2 hours to configure it and make sure everything is looking normal. After that 1-2 hours, I called the new layout a pain in the ***.

Now, after about a month of using the new layout, I like it more than the old. We need to move on with the times people. I say ignore that group and force the change on them  Muahahaha.

I love the new look of Facebook, it's only 2-3 hours to configure how it works and where they put all my old stuff in the new layout. That group is weird.

Many people I have talked to say they hate the new Facebook, but can never really give me any good reasons other than the standard "it is harder to find things." I disagree, after all the Fapplications (many of which are crap) covered a user's page, I could not even find the basic Wall (not Super wall or Advanced Wall or Fun Wall--I had a friend with all 3). With this new layout everything is nicely separated and one can easily learn to use it if he or she would just give it a chance.
