Google has just added another element of customization to Google Calendars with their directory for public calendars with calendars that can be integrated into your own personal calendar. The directory includes a variety of different calendars divided into categories, so searching and browsing is easy. Categories include:
- Top Picks
- TV Shows
- Calendars by Google
Under the TV Shows category, you can enter in your zip code so that the calendar you select (e.g., TV Showtimes for the Daily Show) will find and display the appropriate times and channels for your area. In the same category you’ll also find showtimes for Sex and the City, Creature Comforts, So you Think you can Dance, and a handful of other options.
An example of a calendar that you can add under the Entertainment category is a Netflix calendar so that you can keep up with all of the latest DVD releases. Under the same category, you’ll find a “Games Release List.” By adding this calendar, you’ll be able to keep up on games released for PS2, DBA, NDS, Xbox, and Xbox 360.
Another calendar I noticed while browsing through the list is one for Remember the Milk. If you use their service, you’ll want to add this calendar to display your daily tasks.
When you click on one of the calendars in the directory, you’ll get a preview of what it will look like. Right from the preview you can add the calendar by clicking “subscribe.” Another way to add a calendar is right from the directory. Under each calendar there will be an “Add to Calendar” option. Once you’ve added a calendar, it will be color coded.
Instead of browsing through the directory, you can also just search for a calendar right from your Google Calendar. Just enter the search-term into the search box at the top of the window and click “search public calendars”. Keep in mind, even if you don’t have a Google Calendar, you can still view the public calendars from this directory.
