I haven’t tried it myself with Tab Mix Plus, but that does modify the tab as well. So I can see that they conflict.

Plus it's gotta take a memory hit if the site is quite complex. I prefer ChromaTabs with the option to have the tab coloured based on the Favicon. Cybernet ends up orange, Netvibes is green, Gmail is red and Facebook blue - very handy for navigating without reading.
