tried most alternatives - but by far the best looking/easiest to use and fully featured is the PDF-XChange Viewer - bigger download intially - but it includes everything - even a comprehensive help file - whereas with Foxit I had to keep downloading extra's - and PDF-XChange extends the features free - hugely!!!

There is a also a 'bare bones' portable version without the help file - but all the features that will run from a USB stick etc for those with skinny internet connections etc.

That's a great story Dee. I never heard of anyone having a problem like that with Adobe, but you'll be much happier with Foxit anyway.

8O A funny thing happened to me on the way...............For the past year I could not open PDF files with Adobe. A page would come up saying I have to accep "License Agreement". But when I would click to "accept", nothing would happen. Eventually I would have to close the page and a msg would appear "Since you did not accept agreement, you haave to close the application". I then would exit without ever having sucessfully opened the PDF file. In my search to "fix" this problem. I came across a blog where a reader/writer suggested to someone else whom was having problem with Adobe to try FOXIT. So I tried it and behold, I was able to open PDF Files. You have no idea how excited I am. I would have to go to the library to open PDF files or do so at work. Now can do it in the comfort of my home. FOXIT ROCKS!!!!!

AMAZING!!! IT IS INCREDIBLE!!!

Simple FOXIT vs ADOBE test:

1. Get any PDF file, which is long enough (300 pages, for example), with many pictures inside.
2. Load this file in both ADOBE and FOXIT readers.
3. Start "Task Manager", and switch to "Processes" tab.
 ADOBE is "AcroRd32.exe",
 FOXIT is "FoxitReader.exe".
4. NOW START DRAGGING SCROLLBAR quickly all way down and all way up multiple times IN ADOBE READER, WHILE WATCHING ITS "Memory Usage" IN "Task Manager".
5. DO THE SAME FOR FOXIT READER.
6. Compare results!!!!!

For me, they both was eating 4 MB RAM, while showing the first file's page.
But after "scrollbar dragging memory eating race", I got amazing results:

ADOBE READER = 250 MB (!!!!!)
FOXIT READER = 24 MB

Incredible!!!!!

[...] It has been 2 weeks since I moved the Blog from Blogger over here to its new home at WordPress. At first I was not sure if this was such a good idea, but I wanted to able to take advantage of the trackback features on CyberNet Technology News. One of the things I do like about WordPress is it provides stats for your blog. I’ve been reviewing those daily and seeing a steady increase of views, that was until the 13th. On Wednesday the 13th the Adobe Acrobat vs FoxIt Reader entry alone had 87 of the total 222 views! That is more than I was getting in an entire day. Even more impressive though, 75 of the visits to my blog came from the trackback link posted on the FoxIt article on CyberNet. [...]

Adobe installs processes that run on system startup and can be quite slow to load inside Firefox. Foxit loads within about a second despite not being preloaded and despite the fact that it has to get the entire .pdf before it opens it stops you having to wait between pages whilst each downloads. Great little program.
