webroot spy sweeper Here’s yet another opportunity to get more free software! For a limited time, you can get your hands on a copy of Webroot Spy Sweeper which will be good for a year. It’s a $29.95 value and will keep you protected from Spyware. It’s their latest version, 5.5, which PC Magazine has said is “easily the best choice for protecting PCs from spyware and for cleaning infected machines.”

As with the AVG offer the other day, we haven’t installed this software ourselves because we have a subscription to ESET Smart Security suite. From what I’ve read though, the process is simple.  Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Click here to sign-up to receive your unique registration number (all that’s needed is a name and email address)
  2. Click here to download Spy Sweeper
  3. Install the app using the registration information you received in step 1

Note: You’ll want to do the custom install otherwise you’ll get an unwanted toolbar installed.

The only other thing you need to note is that the software is for personal use only… not for use on business computers.

  1. One year from today or one year from any day you install it? And it expires after 1 year? That’s like a 1 year trial version.

  2. Installed it today, 28 December 2007, and it will expire 27 December 2008. :D

  3. It sounds like this one does work for one year from installation, whereas the AVG expires sometime in December 2008 no matter when you install it.

  4. Hmm… if it does work a year from installation, doesn’t that mean it can be taken advantage of? (I entered me email twice and got 2 different serial numbers O.O)

  5. Thanks for the heads up. Just grabbed a handful of keys and sent this info out to everyone I know. Been using this program for a while now and I just love it. This, Avast and Firefox has kept me virus/spyware free for a long time now.

  6. I used Spy Sweeper for years with great results.
Webroot is indeed a great company.

  7. Can I run it on more than 1 comp with the same key?

I wouldn’t risk it. They could end up blacklisting your serial number if it detects update requests from multiple computers. Just get multiple serial numbers by signing up a few times.
