Keeping up with everything that you need to do can be a rather exhausting task. An open source project called Chandler is looking to ease the burden by giving you an intuitive way to leave notes, manage tasks, and organize your calendar all from one central location.
The nicest thing that I really love about Chandler is the quick entry box located at the top of the screen. From there you can leave notes, tasks, create events, and more without flipping between multiple views. Here are some of the commands you’ll need to make the most of the quick entry box:
- Prepend the text in the quick entry bar with the appropriate command to create the item of a specific type, e.g. /n for Notes, /s for Starred Notes, /m for Messages and /e for Events.
- You can create items of multiple types by combining the commands like /s /m for Starred Message, /e /m for Invitations, etc.
Here’s a quick 3-minute video (higher quality .MOV video) that the creators of Chandler assembled demonstrating some of the cool features:
Chandler is open source and cross-platform, which really helps make this a killer application. Give it a whirl and let us know what you think!

looks like a nifty app, but “one central location” is subject to interpretation. in fact, for me it’s useless. i need something i can access from anywhere.
for now, i’ll stick to a combination of gmail, gcal, and backpack.
If I could sync this to my smartphone, google calendar, etc I’m but it looks like a no go, I installed some google sync plugin but it was so unintuitive after 15 minuted I deleted the whole app. maybe when you get some built in plugins that are useful and some moble sync options.
