Any guesses what the best global brand is for 2007? I’ll tell you this much, it’s not Google, but the good news for them is that their brand value has improved quite a bit over the last year. Topping the list is actually Coca-Cola with Microsoft and IBM taking 2nd and 3rd places respectively. This information comes from a recent survey conducted by Interbrand and reported by BBC in which it was determined that Google was “the most improved brand” of 2007.
What goes into a brand anyways? Branding and marketing go hand in hand, and according to Wikipedia, a brand includes a name, logo, slogan, and design scheme associated with a product or service. “Brand recognition and other reactions are created by the use of the product or service and through the influence of advertising, design, and media commentary.” More and more people are using and talking about Google these days, so their brand value which increased 44% should really be no surprise. That 44% increase placed them at #20 on the list and has their brand valued at $17.8 billion dollars!
While Google was definitely considered one of the “hot” companies this year, Apple and Nintendo were also brands that had improved with much of that attributed to the iPhone, and the Wii. These companies are “setting the standards for how you develop a brand online” says Jez Frampton, CEO of Interbrand. So with that, what are your predictions for next year? Will Google break into the top 10 list? Who will be the “most improved” for 2008?
