Google Docs has come a long way in becoming a powerful online alternative to the desktop office suites, and now there’s a Firefox extension that makes it way better. The Google Docs Companion for Firefox adds a new sidebar in Firefox for quickly managing and searching your online documents. The simple, yet powerful interface is sure to win over your heart.
Once installed you’ll be able to search through all of your documents, filter them by type, and sort them in a variety of different ways. It’s almost like having the files right there on your own computer!
The best feature, however, has to be the drag-and-drop uploader that is located at the bottom of the sidebar. With it you can drag files from your desktop, drop them into that special location, and they will automatically be uploaded to your Google Docs account. No more trampling through folder after folder trying to navigate to a specific file to have it uploaded!
Worried about privacy? Your credentials are sent over a secure connection, and the username/password is stored within your Firefox password manager. Looks like you don’t have to compromise your security and privacy to get a cool new feature for Google Docs.

I tried last week and it didn’t work in Firefox 3 Beta 2
I tried it last week with FF2, and it didn’t work either… Then the author updated it to a new version yesterday, and now its loading my several hundred Gdocs just fine. Great extension
Works great for me in 2.o.o.6. However, w/gdocsbar I lose my Google Calendar sidebar. Is there a way to have one bar on the left & one on the right?
Try MultiSidebar extension.
Form the author of Speed Dial and Showcase extension.
Neat stuff!
GREAT! Thanks Tonino
Works well & now I have my Google Calendar Sidebar on the left & Google Docs Bar on the right at startup of Firefox. Appreciate the excellent & quick reply. This will be a long time keeper for me.
The Fx password manager is not very secure though..
That’s a pretty nice extension! I’ll have to write about that.
If you use a Master Password it is very secure. Otherwise your passwords remain exposed to anyone with access to your computer.
True, but you’re not suggested to do that, so not many people will. The extension is really nice though
! I just hope that Fx will do something about the insecurity of their password storage – when you use the extension it doesn’t even become clear it stores it in the Fx password manager.
