I just went over to the Google Maps page and noticed a new feature that said "Drag the blue line to change your route." Curiosity got the best of me so I decided to try it out to see what it did, and after creating a route I noticed that I can make Google Maps go the way I want it to when giving directions. Check it out in this very quick video that I put together:

Pretty cool, huh? I was pretty impressed with what it could do, and the concept is pretty simple. It essentially just adds "way points" to the course to make sure it passes through that location, but it is useful when Google Maps takes you a slightly different route than you would really like to go. Now just drag and drop the blue line until it is perfect in your eyes!

You can play with the map I created in the video by clicking here. It even includes all of the way points I created.

It is about time! I was hoping that they would add this feature as offline mapping software had waypoints. There have been many times that I would have liked to change the route Google Maps gave and could not. Looks like I will be able to now! :)

  3. I feel the same way…it left me wondering why no one had really done this before? I give Google credit for being innovative, now I just wish I had an iPhone so that I could use this everywhere. :)

I’m not so sure about the iPhone. I expect there to be a lot of issues with it. Maybe when version 2 or 3 comes around, it may be worth it.

  5. Yeah, that’s about when the iPod took off as well. I still remember getting the original iPod’s at Target with the 5GB of storage for $500. I don’t remember ever selling a single one of those, of course back then they had separate versions you had to buy depending on if you were running Windows or Mac.
