If you use Google Reader to keep track of your feeds, log in and you’ll find a pleasant surprise — a new look!  In addition to the new look are some welcomed features that many have been waiting for.  According to the Google Reader Blog,

“With a clean interface and some JavaScript wizardry, we think we’ve built an application that accommodates a wide range of reading styles while being fun and easy to use. “

Here’s a quick list of the new features:

  • Unread counts / “mark all as read.”
  • Folders to make navigation A LOT  easier to keep your subscriptions organized
  • Expanded View to give you an overall scan
  • With one click, share something you like with your friends

If you don’t like the change, they still give you the option in the “settings” to return to the old interface. This new interface and the features are definitely a huge improvement and much needed.  If you’d like to check out the new Reader, click here.

Thanks for the tip Curtiss!

Wow, what an amazing update. I’m very impressed actually. The old interface was slow for me, the feeds un-subscribing didn’t work, and the design was poor with all the news from all the feeds showing in one pane. This update is marvelous. The feeds load instantaneously, the design is better, everything works, and this is definitely my new online feed reader.

The only thing that holds me back from permanently switching from a desktop application is that I can’t have the feed update more frequently. The online feed readers generally default to a 1 hour update which is too long for me…yes, I’m impatient. :)

    No problem!

I am really liking this update myself, the old Google Reader, was becoming very difficult to manage with all the RSS feeds I subscribe to. Though I am still toying around with these new features myself, I like everything that I’ve seen so far, and has made me decide to stick with Google as my RSS feed aggregator, instead of switching to another service.

I personally love how I can better organize and manage all my RSS feeds in it, easily. As well as view each individually (this was one of several features that I was waiting/looking for in an RSS aggregator, that Google finally addressed).

I think this change was much needed! I found it very difficult to sort through the feeds I subscribed to. The design and features are definitely a lot better.
