Microsoft’s original goal was to sell one million Zunes by June 2007. It’s mid-May and they have already sold one million Zunes which shows they’re right on track with where they expected they’d be nine months after launch.
As their first entry into the portable media market, I’d say that the Zune has done fairly well. Especially considering that the iPod already had such a massive portion of the media market to begin with.Certainly, the Zune hasn’t turned into the “iPod Killer” that it was once dubbed, but it’s doing good. Not great, but good.
I am surprised however, that I have yet to see anyone using a Zune. I live in a college town and have seen iPod after iPod in the hands of college students but have yet to see anyone with a Zune. I guess when put into perspective, one million Zunes really isn’t THAT much in the grand scheme of things. I’ve of course seen them on the shelves at various stores, but that’s as close as I’ve gotten to seeing one in public.
So, have any of you seen a Zune making a public appearance?

I tend to believe the vast majority of those Zune’s were sold to Microsoft’s friends, families and assorted rabble.
Almost everybody i know has bought at LEAST 4 iPods since it came out. and the iPod has been through 11 different versons… the Zune.. 1.
I haven’t seen a Zune in public yet.
The people I know have iPods.
I’ve only seen one and I didn’t even recognize it. I was sitting with my friend at the airport and had to ask him what device he was listening to and he said it was a Zune.
Now that I think about it I haven’t actually seen someone using a Zune. Well, I of course assume that everyone is using an iPod when they have white headphones but that might not be the case. The problem is that most people you see listening to music have the device shoved in their pockets where you can’t see it.
I own one, and I have several friends who do too. Maybe you haven’t seen them because people keep them in their pockets, so all you see is the earbuds. How are people storing their iPods, since you’re seeing those? Is it some kind of fashion statement?
I was referring to people in the library, classes, or other places where they have them sitting out on a desk or a table. I’ve also seen people, like I did, just carry their iPods in their hands from class to class or while riding the bus.
The Zune can share songs via Wifi with other Zune’s but you’re only allowed to listen to shared stuff 3 times or something like that?????

There’s a kid at my school, possibly two with zunes, but the only one I’ve seen is with the guy in my art class. It looks like some sort of fake gameboy you used to get with happy meals at mcdonalds.
Sure, you can share over wi-fi, he says, but good luck findng another zune to share with.
