I am currently taking a wait and see approach with the PS3, which could bite me in the butt when Blu-Ray wins out. Sony has dropped the 80 GB Hard Drive model and there is speculation that they are going to come out with a new version. I am hearing that it may be a white one, but have not heard anything about hard drive size. I may want to take the plunge next month on the 40 GB model in case there ends up being a shortage when Blu-Ray does win out.</blockquote></div>
I would definitely pick it up soon since Sony has no incentive to lure people in to Blu-ray since that will be the eventual format people adopt.

Sony just has more to lose given that blu ray was their chosen format for their console hence their public push. If blu ray had lost, then all the other hardware manufacturers would simply switch to manufacturing hd-dvd hardware. Sony definitely has a lot to lose since their games are also produced on Blu-ray discs, but you're right that there are a ton of large players backing Blu-ray.

In my country (Portugal) the HD-DVD never seemed to much interesting ... It's promotion was not visible, as oposed to PS3/Blu-Ray ... from what i had seem, neither in generic europe ...

Xbox 360 isn't very popular on this part of the world either ... so ... let's hope the 360 doesn't die so soon to keep Sony awake ;)

@Mohan

Digital distribution is far from becoming feasible form of distributing digital content and lets take a look at why. Firstly, people need to feel that the content they purchased is secure, digital downloads do not ensure this. Content on a hard drive is vulnerable to hard drive failures which could result in an entire collection of movies being lost in an instant if the hard drive completely fails. Sure one can always do a raid configuration, but that too suffers from a single point of failure. Secondly, downloadable content will suffer from much more drm that its physical counterpart. You can not share digital content nor can you sell it like its physical counter part. Try selling your music that you purchased through itunes as you would an old cd. Lastly it is not feasible now nor in the foreseeable future to get 1080p resolution with True Dolby HD over the internet given our current and foreseeable future infrastructure.

@ Amak
DRM was a bad idea from the get go by the consortium. But lets think about it, not taking the side of the consortium, why are you worried about DRM? If you are going to buy the physical media or rent it, why are you so worried? How many people can actually say that they backup their entire movie collection? With that said, if all you are worried about is watching the content, why worry about drm unless you want to backup the content which I seriously doubt you will do? Blu ray players do not go obsolete with a single update, unless you buy movies for the extra features and commentaries. And once again, Sony != Blu ray so destroying sony will not stop the blu ray push, just dent it.

Only thing that Blu-Ray has thats great is massive disc space (25gb I believe). But I have read that it has massive DRM which always screws the consumer. And with the fact that Blu-Ray players can go obsolete due to a simple update....Sony needs to be destroyed.
