If for some reason you don’t like the default colors used for links and web pages in Internet Explorer, there’s a very simple way to change them to colors that you do like.
All you have to do:
- Click on the Start menu > Control Panel > Internet Options
- Click on the General tab
- Under the “Appearance section” towards the bottom, click Colors
- Un-check “Use Windows Colors” and then begin selecting your own
You’ll be able to change the colors for text, background, visited links, and unvisited links. Now, the important thing to remember is that most sites specify the colors that they want to be used. If you want to use your specified colors for all of these sites, you’ll need to override website color settings.
All you have to do:
- Click on the Start menu > Control Panel > Internet Options
- Click on the General tab
- Under the “Appearance section” towards the bottom, click Accessibility
- Select “Ignore colors specified on webpages” and then click OK
Now keep in mind, this will override the colors for anything that uses Internet Explorer. For example, I changed my colors and ignored colors specified by sites which also then changed the colors in Google Talk, Windows Live Writer, and FeedDemon. You’d probably be surprised at how many different applications use Internet Explorer after you find that all of their colors have been changed besides the ones in Internet Explorer.
Changing Colors in Firefox
If you’re using Firefox and you’d like to change the colors, under the Tools menu click “options.” Under the content section will be “Fonts and Colors.” Click “Colors” and you’ll be able to change both link colors, and the text and background colors. You’ll also find the option there to allow pages to choose their own colors. Un-check that box if you want to override colors specified by sites.

Yeah, I’ve heard about those people before. My parents are two of them. I tried introducing them to Firefox and tabs, but they still insisted on bringing up a new window for everything. Kinda defeats the purpose of tabbed browsing. We’ll just have to wait till the older generation dies off.(no offense mom) Then Firefox will reign supreme…
just like my stepdad. showed my mom FF and she loves it. my stepdad came barging into my room YELLING “whyd you install that useless program blah blah blah” hehe. was funny telling him how crappy IE is.

weird, it didnt put what i typed. neway, i showed mom FF and my stepdad got mad. he started yelling at me lol. i explained why IE sucked and he just kept yelling.

Yep, amazing isn’t it? IE still reigns over all other browsers. While the majority of our readers here use Firefox, there are still plenty using IE7, and a good chunk still using IE6.
