This was true for W98, not for later versions of windows. Certainly worked back then; saving seconds on a reboot time.

In related tips: press Win+Power to shut down your computer. Not all keyboards have a Power key, and I’ve only tested this on my own Windows XP machine.

I couldn’t get it to work either, but there was some thought that it doesn’t work on laptops. I mentioned in the article that I couldn’t get it to do anything, but I was hoping that it would work for someone.

It doesn’t do anything on my WinXP Pro.

I’m reading all over digg that this info is completely wrong.

Well, that was the fastest restart in history or it didn’t work
I blinked when I clicked OK & there was the desktop on my HP laptop. Never did work in Win 98 for me either.

Well I remember this being in Windows 98 and it was very useful. But I never could get it working in Windows XP.

I’m pretty sure that the ‘Shift+Restart’ wouldn’t work for me because I triple-boot my computer, but when I next log in to Windows, I’ll try it.
