Hide Spam Counter In Gmail

July 30th, 2006

Spam
Rarely ever does my spam filter in Gmail catch something it shouldn’t. And vice versa, rarely does it ever let spam slip through the cracks. I typically don’t even have to worry about opening the folder to double check. The Spam folder really does its own thing, and does a pretty good job at it. If you’re receiving a lot of spam messages and don’t really care to see the insane amount of spam Gmail is catching for you, there’s an easy way to hide the spam counter.

Here’s what to do:

Create a new filter with the following details:
Has the words: is:spam
Check “Delete it”.
Check “Also apply filter to conversations below”

It’s a pretty simple solution. All of the spam messages you receive will automatically be moved to the trash.

One bad thing is if you forget that you just happened to label something Spam a month or so ago while you were distracted and then all mail coming from there you will never see…

    It is a great tip tho… :D

Be Sure You Check What You Label Spam… hehe

In Firefox, this can be achived by using the “Customize Google” extension, which has several other useful features around Google and Gmail.

Thank you for this great site, btw. Keep up the fantastic work!

Keep up the fantastic work of not crediting the sources even if you copy the title and most of the content.

We’re always really good about giving credit when credit is due. Good work deserves it. I simply forgot to get that link in there. I’ve just updated it to include the news soucre. I’d also like to point out that “most of the content” was not copied, only the “how to.” I have personally sent an e-mail to you with my apologies. I did not intentially leave out the link. Thanks for pointing that out Ionut Alex! :)
