It’s borderline to me. I think that it should be viewed as an add-on to the driver since it is used to take full advantage of the hardware. Without it you are left with typical onboard sound.

It’s been awhiel since I have bought a Creative card as well, and I think the last one was about 5-years ago. Surprisingly I have always been satisified with the onboard sound that my motherboards have.

Its a shame that creative don't even give you what vista gives by default. Now my Audigy 2 is used purely for my microphone as my on board has all its sockets taken.
