The good old 3.5 floppy disk is just about obsolete these days, much like VHS tapes. I know I have a good stack of them sitting around my house with no hope of ever using them. There’s no need to throw them out with this idea: Turn them into a computer carrying bag. Step by step instructions come from instructables.com if you’re serious about using up the unwanted floppy disks.
There are only a few necessary supplies you’ll need:
- Drill/drill bit
- Pliers
- A good stack of floppy disks
- Links, bits of chain
- Nails/plank of wood
- Pen
Pictured above, the floppy disk bag is undoubtedly geeky, really geeky. This is probably crossing the line for most, but if that’s the look you’re going for, by all means put your floppy disks to good use.
Here’s one additional “less geeky” solution: Recycle them at GreenDisk.org where they’ll happily collect your “mixed technotrash.”

I’m a geek, however, I am nowhere near that geeky!
Me neither…I definitely draw the line at a USB cable necklace.
Think that they should have used 5.25 disks, or are these not even 1.44mb 3.5inch disks?
I don’t think the 5.25″ would have been as sturdy since those truly were “floppy”.
