Over the weekend we decided to do something to keep us busy, and what we came up with was an iGoogle Gadget and iPhone Web App for checking your local gas prices (U.S. only). A full introduction to iGas is available, but here’s a quick overview for those that want to dive right in:
- A standalone website is available which has been optimized for the iPhone, but really works in any browser. Just point your browser to http://cybernetnews.com/igas to get started.
- iGoogle users can click here to add the gadget to their personalized homepage.
We have setup a dedicated page for iGas that outlines all of its features, and here is a screenshot to give you a taste of what the output looks like:

Great idea. I knew that thing would slowly corrupt you guys
Corrupt, no. Not us.
Igas was working just fine, but the last few days I type in zip code and just get a blank screen on my iphone, however when I do the same thing on my mac laptop, everything is fine. what am I doing wrong?
You’re not doing anything wrong. There is a problem with the site right now and we’re trying to figure out why it stopped working.
Igas working fine now – Thanks!!
Google decided to make some changes that really messed things up, but we managed to get it all straightened out in a few hours last night.
iGas isn’t working as of today–just a bunch of strange html code next to each gas station. It’s a great webapp if you guys would consider keeping it going! There are no other Gas-finder apps for the iPhone at this time!
Looks like it should be fixed for the most part, but we are no longer the ones that maintain the site.
So… iGas has been down for a couple weeks now and is re-directing to a map which is useless to iPhone users.
What happened? Are there any plans to put iGas back online in a usable form?
The new owner does have plans to try and fix the site, but it’s out of our control now. We didn’t have the time or resources to try and maintain it, and so it had to be passed on. Sorry.
