AMD really has some high quality processors, and while I'm currently running mostly Intel processors on my PC's (I do have a computer with an X2 5000 though) I am confident that AMD will do something to revolutionize the market. They have been keeping quite a little too long and so I think they have a trick up their sleeve.

I'm sure it will somehow integrate their recent ATI acquisition? Maybe an all-in-one processor that also has a video card actually on the processor? If they figure out how to do that then that could really shrink and lighten mobile computers while offering fast graphical computations.

CoryC wrote:
AMD has always been slow to get the jump on Intel but once they do they usually enjoy the lead for a couple of years.

It takes time and lots of money to create a great processor so while Intel enjoys top honors today it won't last forever. I believe within a year AMD will be back on top with true quad-code and 8-core processors build on 45 NM technology. This will put AMD at the top again.

Yea, I agree with CoryC. It took me quite some time to switch from the infamous P4 478pin to AMD64x2 AM2, but the wait was worth it. Even at times the Core 2 Duo seems tempting :D But the major turn off for me is that Intel chips runs hot even @ idle, and the stock fan buzzes like mad.

Oh AMD will be back, thats for sure. Watch out, C2D

I also am an AMD fan and am looking forward to their future processors the X4 and X8 I believe. Another reason AMD tends to lag behind from time to time is that they do a lot more testing internally before releasing products than what Intel does. If memory recalls they tested the original 64bit cores for more than 3 years before releasing them. I personally would rather have a proc that has gone through good R&D as well as testing before release. I remember the early PIII problems.

I will openly admit I am biased and have been called an AMD fanboy so take it as you will
