Lyrics Plugin

When I’m listening to music it is nice to have the lyrics available within the media player so that you don’t have to venture off onto the Internet to hunt them down. So many of the online services bombard you with advertisements and popups, and it becomes more of a chore to find what you’re looking for.

I came across a free plugin today that does exactly what I wanted. It automatically retrieves and displays lyrics in Winamp or Windows Media Player (WMP) for the songs as they are played. I downloaded and installed the plugin for Windows Media Player, and it managed to get the lyrics for a large number of my songs. And I can’t forget to mention the simplified interface that makes reading the lyrics easy.

If you’re a lyric buff I highly recommend you give this a shot!

  1. I can totally vouch for this. I have used this plugin for what seems like forever. The best part is you can edit wrong lyrics, or put in a whole new set, right in the player while the song is playing. simply perfect.

That’s actually something that left me a bit puzzled. I know that the lyrics are not stored on the user’s computer, which means they are all stored in a remote database. From what I gather someone can screw up the lyrics on purpose, which sounds to me like it can turn into a similar problem as to what Wikipedia has been experiencing with vandalism. I haven’t completely figured out if this plugin has a way to avoid troubles like that though.

  3. Would have been something great. But the moment I clicked on “Open”, AntiVir beeped (yes it actually beeps for those who didn’t know) and warned me of a virus. A certain DR/Glob.Zen Ah well, thank goodness for av programs. :D

Avast! didn’t pick anything up for me, and I did a search for that virus and didn’t come up with any results. So I don’t know what the heck is going on. 8O

  5. No problems here and I have used it in the past.

  6. Hey nice plugin , really love thiss

    thnxxx ryan

  7. Amarok does this out of the box on Linux distributions. But the plugin is good. But iam a bigger fan of easylyrics.

  8. I think Evil Lyrics is better option which works with iTunse, WMP, Winamp and many more players.

That is one of the nice things about Amarok.

Haven’t tried that plugin before, but it does look equally as good.

  10. Actually Evil Lyrics is much more advanced : it has a karaoke mode, it can store the lyrics locally (and it comes with a “lyric organizer” for those lyrics), it can display the lyrics within milkdrop (winamp vizalisation plug-in), and more.

  11. The Avira problem will be fixed in the next day or two. It is a False Positive and the Avira employee I sent the file to last night said that “the false positive is on the installer here. It is very minimalistic
and resembles the latest incarnations of the Zlob “installer” package.
The author of the plugin should switch to the most recent NSIS version (2.31).”

You can install it manually and if you do that Avira does not alert on the .dll. You can go to the Lyrics Plugin forum for instructions. Or just wait until Avira issues new definitions.

I can’t get the plugin to work with AOL XM stations on Winamp. I can see the lyrics when I start Winamp and one of the XM stations is already loaded but when I click start on Winamp so I can hear the music the lyrics disappear and I get an AOL page. I’m going to look into this Evil Lyrics.

  12. I downloaded lyricsplugin for windows media player and it doesn’t work at all. and cant be uninstalled. I should have know it was not a good program not having away to uninstaqll and no help available from producers

  13. hi guys…

i have a task to be submitted on monday..
i need to make the lyrics plugin for winamp and WMP software and the lyrics of the video..

can you guys teach me the procedure?

  14. i have a feeling i’ve been here before as my posting information is saved..oh well, here we go..

hello, i installed this plugin a while back on wmp11 using ie8.

then sometime, it just stopped working. i can still view the lyrics themselves sometimes, but i can neither configure nor edit them myself. the windows come up maybe but once i click submitit either hangs there as yet another blank window or ’submits’ but gets no results even if i click for next song or refresh.

i’ve rolled back to wmp10, uninstalled, reinstalled the plugin and most other visualizations not default. switched to firefox even as default browser-the windows themselves still open with an internet explorer browser for some reason-switched back, uninstalled winamp and so on.

scouring the internet for a solution hardly did any use as although many people knew about this plugin and used it/recommended it, little said anything about problems and those who did enquire and the answer, as per here aren’t displayed.

unfortunately the official website itself doesn’t contain any forum, faq etc or even an inquiry form so i can only resort to spamming ‘relevant’ internet posts with an sos and hope someone can help.

    thank you for reading.
