@Richard: I think that Dell just doesn't want users to be disappointed if they try putting their music collection or images on the computer. I would prefer that Dell over estimate the requirements so that users aren't very disappointed.

@Mohan: Actually I think I just read somewhere that HP surpassed Dell's sales which is why this one source (I can't remember who) said that Dell is doing this whole IdeaStorm thing. I'm glad that Dell is doing it because it will help raise the public awareness of alternative operating systems, especially since Linux relies more on word-of-mouth than multi-million dollar marketing schemes.

@aaron: I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your switch over to Ubuntu from Vista. Hopefully you got your driver issues all situated.

As a new user of Ubuntu, I'm pretty ecstatic about this move. Kudos, Michael Dell.

Well I was very happy to learn that Dell on of the bigest manufacturer of computers in the US wants to actually sell computers without Windows. I am going to look at Dell closer when I am ready to replace my laptop. :D

I personally think its great for Ubuntu and Linux as a whole but i have question Dell System Requirements which is here -

Ubuntu 7.04 runs on PCs with i386 processors and AMDâ„¢ 64 processors that meet or surpass the following requirements:

    * 500 MHz x86 processor
    * 192 MB of RAM
    * 8 GB of disk space
    * Graphics card capable of 1024 x 768 resolution
    * Sound card
    * Network or Internet connection

As user who installed 7.04 and uses i have disagree with 8gb of disk spare needed. Ubuntu recommends 2gb of disk spare and that's easily a enough for basic Web, E-mail and Office

Over a right step in the right direction
