gmail me.pngHave you been kicking your head around trying to come up with a domain name you can remember? Even though most of the good .com addresses are already taken you shouldn’t give up hope. In fact GoDaddy just started selling .me domain addresses, but they will cost you $20 per year (2-year minimum registration required).

As you can see in the screenshot above there are quite a few common addresses available, such as gmail.me, but there are plenty of domains GoDaddy never put up on the block. These include a lot of common first names, last names, and frequently sought after domains. GoDaddy plans to auction off most of these reserved domains at a later date.

Now it will be interesting to see what domains start popping up that follow the format of Del.icio.us. Two domains that are currently available are “xboxga.me” and “wiiga.me“, which obviously spell out the word “game” at the end. The same kind of thing can be done with the word “home“, and an example of an available domain is “yourho.me“. I’m sure this will bring out the creativity in people!

Go ahead and scoop up that easy-to-remember domain name that you’ve been gunning for.

  1. well, as Popeye would say: blow.me down!

I’m sure there will be plenty of sites along those lines, too.

  3. I saw somewhere that GoDaddy is having trouble with this system and at least 8 people have receipts for aweso.me already.

Yep, it appears that there is more of a demand than they expected. Someone on Twitter just said that there are like a dozen people who have receipts for hug.me as well.

When 8:00 AM came our call volume went thru the roof. Reminded me of the day the .asia went public. In the case with multiple registrations on the same domain, which ever one gets processed by the registry first is the one that gets the name, everyone else will be refunded. We had the same issue with .asia domains as well.

The .me are going to be far more popular as these are one of the few ccTLD (Country Code) names that have no restrictions, much like .TV and the less known .AM & .FM. Unlike the .ASIA which requires a contact to be a resident in the Asia/Pacific region (Asia, Australia or Antarctica). BTW, Antarctica has their own ccTLD, .AQ

We will be starting to register .ca (Canada) domains later this month or next month.

  6. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw my receipt for aweso.me and the.me. Two minutes later I received the failed registrar message. I settled with flexible.me

Thanks for the info. I was waiting to hear what you had to say about it since you work there. Any idea how many domains you guys actually registered in the first day?

Don’t know yet. This is my weekend, but I can go log into my email real quick and see if there is any news.

The only news I see as of last night was they are going to evaluate failed registrations and if needed resubmitted to the registry or refund. They are also going to refund any employee .me purchases made during the Landrush Period that ended up going to auction, since we are no longer allowed to participate in the auctions. I’ll look for more news later tonight they usually send out the daily update email in the late afternoon.
