To check it is on, go into Winword Options, Proofing, Use Contextual spelling</description>

But when it works, this will be much closer to what most people assume spell check to actually be.  Of course, one will also have to be able to form a normal sentence before Word can recognize the context of the word, so this new feature may not work for the majority of people...</description>
