If any of you were beta testers for Windows Live Hotmail, did you get your gift yesterday? I’m not writing this for the sake of it being news, but more for the sake of how cheesy it actually is. I think they meant well, but a Beta Badge? Maybe I’m under-estimating the power of a badge. The subject was “A Big Thank-you” and when I opened it up, it said “It’s our launch party but you get the presents!” Below is what the offers were:

Betabadge

When I saw the “Great Windows Vista Offer” I thought that maybe they were offering a coupon, which would have nice gesture from Microsoft. Maybe $25 or $50 off the purchase of Vista? However, the offer was only good for $100 off a Gateway computer with Vista Ultimate on it, or 4 free accessories with the purchase of a custom built PC.

Beta Badges aside, this must mean that Windows Live Hotmail will be making its way out of beta soon.

  1. Well I got this email also, it’s nice of them but I passed on it. I love the changes they have made and I use my Hotmail account more now because of it.

  2. You mean you didn’t want the badge :) They have made a lot of much needed improvements, and I think the Hotmail users who haven’t gotten a glimpse of the new service will be pretty happy.

  3. Also got the email…how corny. I mean they give u some image that anyone, even a non-beta tester could get not to mention a url that looks all fancy and unique to yourself but is however simply:

    [windowslive-hotmail.com]

    *sigh* how lame…

  4. I think Ashley was on the right track suggesting that they offer a coupon for $25 or $50 off of Vista, without needing to purchase a computer. That would have actually been valuable to users.

  5. Or at least for those who provided them with feedback. I never did, so I don’t think I deserve a thing- but some people gave lots of suggestions.
