When it comes to portable media players like Microsoft’s Zune or Apple’s iPod, we always find ourselves asking, “What could they possibly do next?” In Microsoft’s case, the next “big thing” is possibly HD. Engadget recently posted some images from an apparent marketing campaign. One of the images clearly includes the new ZuneHD logo, and another gives us a glimpse at what the device looks like.

Few other details are available as to the additional features that the third generation Zune would include, other than HD. A fantastic movie player might give the Zune the edge that it needs to win over a few iPod users. Any thoughts?

When will Zune give up already? :)
I think it’s a good move and idea. I’m happy with my Zune which I bought mainly for it’s video capabilities (primarily podcasts).
Hey, you just never know! The tables could always turn, couldn’t they? I think the HD will be welcome among movie fans who want a good quality portable movie player.
I don’t see myself enjoying HD to the fullest on a small screen.
They should start releasing them in UK and Europe first!
as a Zune user myself, I know that this device is really cool. Is weird to be a counterculture with a MS product, but this time they are the underdogs with a quality product (for a change). And I really impressed by the possibilities that this will bring.
Ashley – HD movie fans aren’t a big enough group. Now raving 13 year old kids are!
its good! i like it!
@nimicitor
This Zune (Gen.4) has been planned as a worldwide release. :D
Give up, Microsoft. Your unhealthy obsession with products outside of your core competency (search, Zune, mobile, xbox) leads to multi-billion dollar hits on your balance sheet. Stick to your knitting — after all, that how the market values you.
Microsoft can work as much as like, but Apple ipod still ever unattainable
I agree!
I have one zune and i like it! I will update to the Hd without thinking (ok, depending on the price)
It’s not exactly my idea of a quality movie experience, but for people on the go (commuters on trains, buses, etc.), it’s not so bad.
You know, it may not be such a bad thing for them to be the underdogs here- they already deal with all kinds of anti-trust issues with their software.
HAHA – well, it may not be a big group, but it’s still a few more potential users, right?
I don’t think you have to be too concerned about price- Microsoft will want to remain competitive.
I don’t know… I have to say what I’ve seen of the Zune HD thus far makes it look like a pretty sweet device.
