This is just a quick note to all of our readers to let you know that this week will be a bit different in terms of a writing schedule because we are moving! As many of you know from reading us (or if you’ve read our About section), Ryan and I are both from the Chicagoland area, but we’ve been living in Iowa for the last 4 1/2 years to go to school at Iowa State University. We’ve decided that the time is right to head back to the area that we’re from, so this week will be spent packing and loading up our moving truck to make the drive on Thursday back to Illinois. That’s right, CyberNet News will have a new home.
Those of you who have moved before know what a fun experience moving actually is (sarcasm). I’m sure most of you will be envious at the fact that we get to spend our week trying to safely pack way too many electronics (among other things), cleaning, and carrying all of our belongings down two flights of stairs, and then driving a rental truck for six hours back to our hometown. Anyhow, here’s what you need to know:
- CyberNotes will still post as usual
- We’ll do our best to post a couple of articles each day
- Normal schedule will resume next Monday
Wish us luck! I’m hoping all of Ryan’s electronics/gadget boxes manage to fit in the moving truck. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork! Oh, and this is what we expect our moving truck to look like:

That’s it. I’m done with Cybernet News. I know that you have a relaxed attitude toward intellectual property, but it took me less than 10 seconds to find source of this cartooon, where I found the following:
Although User Friendly is free to access and read, please remember that the comic strip, the expression of the stories within, its characters and their likenesses, are intellectual property, and have been registered according to International Copyright Law. You may not publish, print, or distribute any said content, except for non-commercial, personal use, without the express written permission from the author. Please note that all rights are reserved and this statement may change according to the desires of the author.
If you think you’re justified just because it’s been posted in forums before, I heartily disagree.
@Ashley:
Best of luck in your new location. I’m sure that wherever you are, the high quality contents of your post will continue. I feel so lucky to have found your site and enjoy your daily posts.
Drive safely and continue blogging!
Regards,
Omar.-
Good luck….moving is oh so fun
When will you, and everyone else with this thought, understand there is not such thing as intellectual property (stupid law makers); only intellectual credit. A person can’t own a non-physical object. They can only take credit for it.
@cybernews
Ya, you need to give credit to who it goes to.
Wait, what about this part:
“except for non-commercial, personal use”
Isn’t this non-commercial, personal use? It’s just a personal blog of Ryan and Ashley’s……
@Omar & Michael: Thanks for wishing us luck. Hopefully I don’t work my fingers to the bone so that I can still type after the move.
Sorry to hear that Joe. The problem with crediting the source of images is that it’s *very* difficult to know where they actually came from. To find this image I did a search on Ask, Yahoo, or Google images for something like “moving truck cartoon” (the post was written last week so I don’t remember) which brought me to some blog post that used the image. I saved it to my computer and gave it to Ashley to add to the post. I knew that the place where I got the image from was likely not the original source, and that’s often the case with a lot of the images that we come across. So even if we did credit the place that we got it from it wouldn’t have been the original site.
Now we run into a dilemma. We could spend hours everyday trying to hunt down the original source of the images that we use for our articles, but it could be possible that we would never find the original source of images. I apologize for your frustration with us, but we already put in 10 to 12 hour workdays that stretch us to our limits. We do our best to give credit when credit is due.
You guys have a safe and “enjoyable” move!
Have a safe move back to Chi-town.
@cybernews
now that someone has pointed out the true source of the image, maybe the credit should be added to the post.
Hope nothing breaks in the move.
If somebody provides the link, without question we’ll add it to the post. But other than saying he found the source, Joe Ledvina never provided a link.
Best of luck in your new location. I’m sure that wherever you are, the high quality contents of your post will continue. I feel so lucky to have found your site and enjoy your daily posts.
Drive safely
Regards,
Have a safe trip guys. Joe, get a life.
Here is a link to the source:
[userfriendly.org]
Found it by searching on the text that Joe quoted.
Good luck on the move guys.
BTW, get a life Joe.
Whoops – here is a link to the actual cartoon source. took more than 10 seconds to find it, because Google doesn’t link directly to the source cartoon:
[ars.userfriendly.org]
Good luck lovely people on your move! How do you manage to run your lives AND continue writing and researching Cybernetnews?? Astonishing! As for the cartoon – I loved it!! To Joe Ledvina et al, half the world is starving and you people get excited about the publication of a cartoon on a blog?? Give us a break!
Love, Light and Peace
JC
Best of luck for the shifting
You got no life man, can’t we all agree there are far more serious things than this.
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words on us moving! Looks like we have quite a task ahead of us as we packed up the moving truck yesterday while it was snowing with 30MPH winds. And we’re making the journey back home tomorrow for the 6-hour drive.
Thanks, looks like Ashley just added the link to it.
It’s tough running the site and trying to move at the same time. That’s one of the reasons we kinda had to go into reduced posting mode for a few days. Most people when they’re getting ready to move take off from work, but we don’t really have that option when the site is open 24 hours a day and people are expecting fresh content. We’re still trying to get 4 or 5 posts up everyday though.
