You're definitely right, but I wonder how they would do away with the tool bar then? I just thought that they couldn't think of the Menu Bar name and referred to it as a toolbar.

Tool bar usually refers to the icon buttons. The thing with file, edit, etc is called a menu bar.

That is one of the great things about Mozilla though...when they first posted mockups of the new Firefox 2 UI they were able to receive a lot of feedback before carrying on with the changes. Frankly, I think it is too late for them to make any huge UI changes because they would need mockups by now, but the next changes they do, whether they be radical or subtle, will all be run by the "involved" Firefox users first.

Major changes in the UI, would definitely create some problems in the beginning as most people are quite used to things happening in a certain way. I still haven't fully gotten used IE 7. So i have to agree with CoryC. Mozilla needs to think about this.

Regarding UI, if we take Office 2007 for example, although i was quite concern with the big changes they made to the UI, it turns out to be quite a solid move, and although they should have included some better transition scheme from the old menus to the ribbon, it works quite well for me.

after reading all the discussion and critics about the Ribbon in office 2007 (at cybernet as well), i believe that on paper, mozilla/firefox guys have a better chance of doing it right, because the process is open to the public (well, part of the public that care anyway). on the other hand, i do recall some very strange ideas, not to mention bad, like hiding the clear cache button (which at the end was saved) or removing the buttons from the Find As You Type bar.

so please be careful.

I personally don't care how many alpha or beta builds there are. I just want a solid browser.

I would caution them from making too many UI changes. Things that are different seem to turn off large number of people and we want the Firefox user-base to grow.
